REPORTS TO: DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF ARTS, HUMANITIES & HONORS

 

 

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for Adjunct Faculty, Visual Communication & Graphic Design for spring 2025.

 

Adjunct faculty members will be expected to use our course management system and any textbook-specific systems. Teaching is assigned on an as-needed, semester-by-semester basis. Classes will be offered during the day.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Teaches a full range of courses in visual communications and design for print and some interactive web design courses, which may include Web, Fundamentals of Graphic Design, Typography, or other classes related to graphic design.
  • Prepares and delivers learning activities in order to achieve course outcomes.
  • Evaluates and grades students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers, and examinations.
  • Maintains and submits students’ attendance records, grades and other required documentation by specified deadlines.
  • Is available to student and attends periodic meetings with full-time instructors or the dean relative to teaching duties, training and development.
  • Holds regular office hours.
  • Participates in one pre-semester meeting each semester.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES:

 

  • Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in teaching in a liberal arts college environment.
  • Is an effective classroom facilitator who enjoys teaching in a culturally diverse, student-centered environment.
  • A minimum of MA in graphic design.
  • Ability to teach visual communication and graphic design courses (web/print) and be proficient in industry standard design software.
  • Teaching experience and a minimum of two years of recent relevant professional work in a graphic design related field preferred.
  • Advanced communication (verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation) and organizational skills, as well as sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
  • Professional graphic design portfolio with web and print design is also recommended.
  • Growth mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.
  • Creative, strategic, and thoughtful.
