REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED
Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room.
- Provides athletic training and sports medicine support to all Lake Erie College student-athletes.
- Directly supervises and evaluates all assistant athletic trainers.
- Directly supervises and evaluates all strength and conditioning coaches.
- Coordinates and supervises sports medicine coverage for practices and competition.
- Travels with both male and female teams, as necessary, for team practices and competition.
- Manages inventory management and ordering of supplies.
- Manages communication with secondary athletic insurance carrier and oversees staff submission of claims.
- Documents and maintains student-athlete PHI (i.e. physicals, injury reports, rehabilitation, etc.).
- Maintains appropriate communication with student-athletes, parents, coaches, physicians and insurance companies.
- Maintains appropriate communication and attends meetings within Athletics.
- Conducts on-going staff/student training sessions so that the department of athletics remains current on and adheres to American Red Cross/American Heart Association/First Aid/CPR/AED/PDT/OSHA and state agency regulations.
- Obtains, creates and maintains an athletic calendar of events for sports medicine staff that includes practices and competition.
- Helps plan and coordinate physical examinations for all student-athletes.
- Develops, communicates and enforces Lake Erie College’s Athletic Training Policy & Procedures for athletes, coaches, parents, and insurance companies.
- May work more than the traditional 40 hours per week, which may include many weekends (including Sundays), nights and holidays.
- Manages the budget and makes purchases for the sports medicine department.
- Assists with transportation of team in vans or bus, upon approval.
- Serves as the contact for NCAA Drug Testing Program.
- Serves as the athletics health care administrator.
- Assists Director of Athletics with insurance options and processing as a full department and for individual student-athletes.
- Acts as an ambassador of the College and conducts oneself in a positive manner to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.
- Serves as a member of the department leadership team to discuss and set department vision, mission and goals.
- Follows all institutional, GMAC and NCAA regulations regarding athletics.
- Projects and promotes an inclusive education with the highest standards where student-athletes are empowered to lead lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens.
- Operates within the mission of the College and athletics department to ensure a full NCAA DII student-athlete experience.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
