POSITION SUMMARY:

The New York Film Academy’s Student Life Department seeks to hire friendly and dynamic students to be Student Ambassadors that serve as Orientation Leaders for our Spring 2025 Orientation Week taking place between January 6 - 10, 2025 and provide assistance with Student Life initiatives throughout the Spring 2025 semester. Student Ambassadors welcome new students and increase their sense of belonging by guiding and introducing them to New York Film Academy during New Student Orientation Week.  Throughout the semester, Student Ambassadors will be responsible for creating and implementing at least one Student Life initiative, provide continued support to first semester students, help foster student connections and conduct campus tours for prospective students .

The ideal Student Ambassador has positive energy, enjoys talking to new people from diverse backgrounds, can learn new information quickly, gets energized by being around others, is comfortable leading a group, and accepts feedback well. A strong candidate is great at building relationships, passionate about making others feel welcome and included, and is eager to complete tasks large or small all in service to supporting students.

 

PLEASE NOTE:  

  • Student Ambassadors must be available to be on campus January 6, 2025 through January  10, 2025  to participate in New Student Orientation Week and paid training. 
  • New York Film Academy (NYFA) Students with F-1 Visa’s will need to contact the NYFA International Office to verify eligibility or work authorization - contact international@nfya.edu

 

STUDENT AMBASSADOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.

  • Attend Orientation Leader Trainings and other trainings determined by the Director of Campus Life
  • Deliver instructions in accordance with the Student Life Department.    
  • Greet and guide new students as they arrive on campus, guiding them to their next location, answering questions, and encouraging participation in social events.
  • Mentor an Orientation group of new students to ease their transition to NYFA and foster a sense of belonging.
  • Lead a conversation with new students exploring diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Contact and email new students with important New Student Orientation information and reminders.
  • Facilitate campus tours, orienting new students to NYFA NY’s campus and services.
  • Collaborate with NYFA’s Admissions Office to conduct tours for prospective students and their families on a weekly basis.
  • Relay feedback from students and identify areas of improvement to enhance New Student Orientation.
  • Participate in and assist with NYFA Open House Events 
  • Create and facilitate activities to build connections among new and current students. 
  • Support social events organized to connect students to each other
  • Serve as a resource to new students and help connect them with the appropriate department/staff to answer common questions.
  • Initiate duties to promote new student engagement on campus
  • Create and implement a Student Life initiative during the Spring 2025 semester
  • Provide support with Student Life and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Campus Life Coordinator

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • High School Diploma  or  completion of GED. 
  • New York Film Academy (NYFA) Students - 3.0 or higher GPA and in good standing with NYFA and must be a current student
  • Enrolled in NYFA classes for duration of Spring 2025 semester 
  • Completion of one semester at NYFA is preferred 
  • Foundational knowledge of inclusion and in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Experience in a leadership role or facilitating conversations.
  • Experience working in a fast pace, multi-tasking, results driven environment with attention to detail.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Suite – Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Basic proficiency with Zoom.

The following machines, tools, equipment and / or software are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position.  Actual machines, tools, equipment and/ or software used will vary.

  • Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Zoom
  • Google Documents
  • Apple hardware products (i.e. Mac, etc.) 
  • Canva

ENVIRONMENTAL / ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS:

The following environmental / atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position.  The actual working conditions will vary.

  • Higher Education environment
  • Office environment
  • Sit for long/high periods of time to perform various computer/administrative tasks    
  • Reasonable dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and/or manipulate computer keyboard and other office equipment 
  • Verbally and effectively communicate utilizing face-to-face contact and telephones
  • Leading occasional walking tours of the New York Film Academy building for prospective participants lasting 
  • Variable work schedule – to be determined.
