About Soldier Hollow  

Soldier Hollow Nordic Center is home to a state-of-the-art biathlon range that was used for the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympic Games. The facility also features a 31-kilometer trail system for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, as well as mountain biking and hiking in the summer. It is a dynamic multi-use facility focused on developing and growing participation in winter sports in Utah. As a part of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, our mission is to cultivate champions in sport and in life, deliver experiences that inspire communities, and celebrate our Olympic Legacy for years to come.  

About the role  

As a rentals/store/café worker, you will be responsible for renting ski gear and selling food, drink, and ski gear/clothing to guests . 

 

Major Tasks and Responsibilities  

 

1. Renting skis and snowshoes 

  • Take payment and waivers for skiing and snowshoeing guests. 

  • Book lessons and answer phones for this and other guest queries. 

  • Distribute properly sized equipment for classic and skate skiing and snowshoeing and put away and organize returns. 

  • Assist in maintaining and repairing ski and snowshoe equipment. 

 

2. Selling retail ski gear and clothing  

  • Sell correctly sized and properly considered gear for the needs of guests. 

  • Assist in organizing and inventorying merchandise. 

  • Sell day tickets and season passes to guests. 

  

3. Selling food and beverages 

  • Using proper food handling skills, sell and prepare various snacks. 

  • Using proper food handling skills, sell and prepare drinks including coffee with a modern espresso machine. 

  • If old enough and trained, sell alcoholic beverages according to Utah law. 

 

4. Miscellaneous 

  • Ratio of work in the above areas can vary according to skills and needs. 

  • Assist shoveling snow from public walkways and areas. 

  • Complete all required in-house training.  

  • All other job responsibilities as assigned.  

 

5. Lead tasks 

  • Open and close the building and do end of shift closeouts on point of sale(s). 

  • Assist in training and mentoring newer employees how to perform the above tasks. 

  • Assist in helping employees learn to teach ski lessons and kids programs. 

  • Work closely with supervisor and manager on reorders, restocking needs, more difficult repairs, official inventories, and atypical customer service needs. 

  • Assist in scheduling for winter programs. 

 

Candidate requirements  

  • Ability to work with little supervision once direction has been given.   

  • Must enjoy working in a team environment.   

  • Must be at least 15 years of age.  

  • Flexible work schedule – must communicate scheduling needs to manager and more shifts and types of work are possible with more flexible hours. 

  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperature/weather extremes 

  • Adequate knowledge of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing 

  • Must be able to stand on feet for extended periods of time.  

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  

  • Hearing - to converse with another in a normal conversation.  

  • Balancing, bending, climbing, kneeling, walking, pushing, reaching above shoulders, and sitting.
