About the Utah Olympic Oval 

Built in 2001 for the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympic Games, the Utah Olympic Oval houses Utah’s only 400-meter speed skating oval, two international sized ice sheets, and a state-of-the-art four lane 442-meter running track. Today, it is a dynamic multi-use facility focused on developing and growing participation in ice sports in Utah. About the role 

As the FAST LT Head Coach, you will be responsible for developing the finest long track speed skating program in the U.S. This position is responsible for the development and oversight of all areas of the training and competition program for developing athletes.  

Major Tasks and Responsibilities 

• Develop and implement an effective training program for developing and high-performance long track skaters  

• Establish training groups  

• Develop and foster a great performance atmosphere  

• Foster and nurture a team atmosphere among the Oval Program athletes.  

• Counsel individual athletes towards excellence  

• Create and tailor training programs for each athlete individually  

• Use video analysis to improve each athletes skating technique  

• Network with other coaches on how to improve athletes' performance  

• Work together with NGB Performance Enhancement Team for the purpose of shared knowledge, resources, speed skating program progress and continuity  

• Oversee and observe all long track speed skating programs at the Utah Olympic Oval  

• Actively participate in the Oval Speed Skating Club by attending meetings, offering ideas, etc…  

• Enhance knowledge and coaching skill by reading current literature, research and attending and participating in classes, courses and seminars on coaching and speed skating  

• Conduct at a minimum, monthly meetings with each athlete to monitor progress  

• Maintain a file on each athlete, the file should contain the athletes goals, copy of their program evaluation, copy of signed code of conduct, copy of all training protocols, weekly meeting minutes that should include athlete feedback, coaches observations, comments and suggestions.  

• Provide guidance and assistance with maintaining and fitting of athletes equipment  

• Attend competitions as necessary  

• Act as a mentor to athletes in the program  

• Monitor athlete program fees and enforce payment/facility policies and procedures  

• Other job duties as assigned

• A current First Aid and CPR certificate or ability to obtain one within two months of hiring. 

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in physical education or similar education preferred 

• Successfully completed U.S. Speedskating Coaching courses (up to level 3) or equivalent preferred 

• Must be at least 21 years of age 

• Flexible work schedule – may need to work late and weekend hours 

• Coaching experience at National Team/International level 

• Ability to lift or move up to 20 pounds 

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

• Hearing - to converse with other is a normal conversation 

• U.S. Center for SafeSport Certification

• Knowledge of physiology, bio-mechanics, psychology and group-dynamics 

• Balancing, bending, climbing, kneeling, walking, pushing, reaching above shoulders, and sitting
