The Role 

In this role you will help create a fun and caring environment where children learn about God, make friends, and grow to understand how much Jesus loves them. You will champion the vision for Kidstown, and oversee volunteers who provide engaging, purpose-filled programs on Sunday mornings and at special events.  

 

This is a full-time, exempt role, reporting directly to the Director of Children’s Ministry and the Kidstown Team Lead. The weekly schedule includes Sunday morning responsibilities, Monday staff meetings in person in Lexington, and the ability to work from home up to 3 days per week. 

The Role Will 

In this role you will have responsibility for Elementary Children’s Ministry at the Lexington Campus. You will: 

  • Oversee a committed team of ministry volunteers and coaches, and work to retain them by offering ongoing training, investing in them outside of Sunday morning, and with regular expressions of appreciation.  

  • Cultivate relationships with congregation members to invite them to serve. 

  • Participate as a member of the Lexington Campus Team to integrate children’s ministry into the life of the Lexington congregation, work collaboratively with the Student Ministry Staff Members           

  • Work collaboratively with staff from the other campuses as an active member of the Kidstown Team and the NextGen Team. 

  • Create safe, exciting learning environments and work closely with our Curriculum Specialist. 

  • Engage with parents by providing resources and follow up on new families and families who attend sporadically. 

  • Provide guidance, inspiration, and leadership for special events, e.g., Family Experiences (FX), child dedications, Kidsweek, etc. 

  • Participate and provide input to children’s ministry planning, budgeting, etc.  

  • Maintain processes for tracking attendance and engagement data.  

  • Function as a member of the entire Ministry Staff team at Grace Chapel by participating in regular staff meetings, worship, and periodic church-wide initiatives.

Skills and qualifications 
A candidate for this position should have the following prerequisites and qualifications: 

  • Leader and Influencer: A gifted and energetic team-builder and inspirational leader, who can effectively recruit, develop, and equip a team of volunteer leaders, and effectively grow a healthy and fun children’s ministry. 

  • Team Player: Someone who is energized by the unique opportunities afforded by serving on a large church staff and collaborating in a multi-campus environment with a multi-campus Children’s Ministry staff. 

  • Pastor/Shepherd: A love and passion for children and their parents. A call to help kids learn about God, make friends, grow to understand how much Jesus loves them, and understand that the Bible teaches us things that make our lives better today. Strong relational skills. 

  • Communicator: The ability to teach and communicate effectively with children and parents in multiple settings. 

 

 

 

Required education and training requirements 

  • Has an active and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  

  • You should be experienced in Children’s Ministry either as a long-term volunteer or paid staff member.  

  • A background in child development and an undergraduate degree is a plus.  

  • Experience leading volunteer teams, developing and equip leaders  

  • Strong communication and computer skills (MS Office, Adobe Products, Database Software).  

  • Practices personal spiritual disciplines and leads with humility, character, and love. 

  • Able to clearly communicate and embrace Grace Chapel Church's mission, vision, values and strategy. 

  • Relational skills and the ability to develop community life.  

  • A self-motivated leader, capable of managing self and others, and effective in developing and implementing church systems 

  • Have a natural ability to connect quickly with people, and encourage them to join in. 

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, challenging environment with multiple competing priorities and the ability to be flexible in the face of change; yet offers loads of fun while winning one more for Christ. 

  • Strong time management skills including the ability to multi-task on various projects and priorities under fixed schedules and in pressure situations. 

  • Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize 

  • Preference for working in a high-level collaborative environment promoting teamwork.
