KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Grace Beginnings Academy Infant & Toddler is responsible for the daily operations of the infant and toddler classrooms. Working with the Preschool Director to create a welcoming, biblically based early childhood academy that looks at the spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development of all children. Training and equipping staff to use their God-given talents to teach and provide excellent care of children.

LICENSING COMPLIANCE

  • Work with the Preschool Director to maintain compliance with the State Dept. of Human Services in all areas, keeping up to date on all licensing updates, changes, paperwork, etc.
  • Maintain compliance of files on each child and staff member (infant/toddler) with necessary documentation in compliance with MN Dept. of Human Services.
  • Oversee and direct staff in fulfilling in-service requirements as per the MN State Statues licensing guidelines.
  • Maintain licensing regulations and procedures, with an emphasis on infants and toddlers.
  • Develop ICCPPS for infant and toddler students, providing the necessary training to all staff.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT & RETENTION

  • Supervise Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Aides, and Floats in the Infant/Toddler classrooms and distribute needs.
  • Manage staffing patterns and assign teachers and assistants to classes/roles.
  • Work with the Preschool Director and Head of School with ongoing teacher training and monthly staff meetings.
  • Work with the preschool director and head of school onboarding new staff members.
  • Establish and communicate high standards to staff in the classroom and provide a quality learning experience for the children.
  • Assume authority over all teaching staff and attend to emergencies in the classroom when the only director is on sight.
  • Manage infant toddler staff timecards and PTO requests, finding substitutes as needed.
  • Hire and terminate staff as needed; prepare guidelines for employment of staff.
  • Be actively involved in the interview process for infant and toddler teachers.
  • Empower, encourage and lead staff to do what God has called them to do.
  • Schedule one-on-ones with staff to keep ongoing communication and support.
  • Observe and evaluate teachers and conduct annual reviews.

PARENT & FAMILY RELATIONS

  • Work with parents to complete enrollment and registration materials to complete student files.
  • Establish a positive relationship with parents and communicate regularly about classroom activities, milestones, and learning objectives.
  • Assist in developing the monthly GBA Family Newsletters.
  • Communicate with parents in a timely and confidential manner about issues and behaviors concerning their children.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication strategies with infant/toddler teachers, parents, and families by sharing and collaborating daily.
  • Demonstrate respect for the needs of the individual child with concerns for the child’s faith, culture, interests, special needs, talents and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Contribute to the development of a positive relationship with parents and coworkers.
  • Treat each child and family with dignity and respect.
  • Approach behavioral issues that arise with children with Christian love, respect and patience.
  • Work with the Admin Team on planning and initiating GBA community events.
  • Maintain a visible presence by being approachable and available to discuss concerns and problems with families.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

  • Establish the program and curriculum expectations for the infant and toddler classrooms.
  • Identify, plan, and implement educational experiences that foster the faith development of the children.
  • Develop, implement, and follow policies and best practices procedures for infants and toddlers.
  • Approach behavioral issues that arise with children, parents, or staff with Christian love, respect and patience.
  • Work with the Preschool Director to plan special school-wide activities throughout the year.

GENERAL

  • Exhibit Christian values to generate goodwill among management, staff, clients, the general community and others pertinent to Grace Beginnings Academy.
  • Maintain a positive and healthy work environment where teachers and staff are respected and celebrated.
  • Assist in the classroom as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized site and assume responsibility for completing the duties required to maintain an orderly facility.
  • Work with the infant and toddler administrative assistant to communicate tasks for them to complete.
  • Remain current on issues and trends in early childhood education.
  • Lead program development and change.
  • Collaborate with other directors and schools to grow professionally as a leader.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is an essential requirement of this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

PROFESSIONAL AND SPIRITUAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Educational requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required in Early Childhood or Elementary Education is preferred.
  • Educational requirements: must meet licensing requirements for the Director.
  • Agrees with Grace Church’s statement of faith required, Grace Church Membership preferred.
  • One to two years of staff management or supervision experience.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice, including faith development, for teaching children from 6 weeks to 36 months of age.
  • Knowledge of Infant and Toddler Curriculum and corresponding assessment methods.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and electronic.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and be self-directed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff and parents.
  • Knowledge of operating under best practices in a childcare facility, including proper policies and regulations.
  •  Exhibits a meaningful and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as evidenced by the manifestation of the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
  • Exhibits a lifestyle appropriate to a person in public Christian ministry by conducting life with the utmost integrity in all situations.
  • Has a commitment to prayer, as evidenced in both corporate and personal prayer.
