Your Role:

The Peer Recovery Specialist will be responsible for the provision of general recovery support for women and men participating in our single men/women intensive outpatient treatment program. The Peer Recovery Specialist will assist with program support, connecting participants to recovery activities in the community, transportation of participants, helping participants get their basic needs met & navigation of the substance use service system, including help to increase access to substance use services. This position works 32hrs/ week (paid 40hrs) 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure high quality, mission-driven services and outcomes in a safe recovery environment.
  • Provide provision of general treatment support and recovery maintenance through Avivo’s Multicultural Recovery Coaching Initiative to African American, multiracial, and multicultural participants.
  • Demonstrate commitment to SAMSHA’s definition of recovery and recovery principles: “A process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.” www.samhsa.gov
  • Actively participate in the division’s Trauma Informed Care Initiative and motivational interviewing. Support and implement evidence-based practices related to specific program area.
  • Employ a holistic approach including promoting health and wellness activities with participants.
  • Provide transportation to participants including operation of Avivo van.

Qualifications

What You Offer

 

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-year experience working with individuals experiencing chemical dependency problems and/or mental health issues.
  • Certification: current credential from the Minnesota Certification Board, the Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addictive Disorders, or the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. An individual may also receive a credential from a tribal nation when providing peer recovery support services in a tribally licensed program.
  • Completion of Recovery Coach Training and certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) through the Minnesota Certification Board (MCB).
  • Minimum of one year freedom from alcohol and chemical abuse/ addiction
  • Experience with and/or commitment to working in a diverse, continuum of services in a fast-paced, growing organization.
  • Experience with and/or a demonstrated commitment to developing and delivering culturally responsive services.
