Senior Director, Application Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY

BillGO is seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Director of Engineering to lead our application engineering teams supporting Payments Core and Issuing, Accounts Receivable Automation, and Integrations. This leader will oversee a global engineering organization of full-time employees and contractors across onshore and offshore locations.

This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our application platforms—leveraging cloud-native technologies, AI-first and Security 1st development practices, and robust engineering methodologies to deliver resilient, scalable, and intelligent B2B payment and AR automation solutions. The ideal candidate is an innovative and strategic thinker with fintech and B2B Payments experience. They will bring deep technical expertise, strategic leadership, and a passion for operational excellence, and a track record of achieving transformational outcomes with lean teams.

Application Engineering Leadership

• Lead the Payments Core and Issuing Engineering team, ensuring scalable, extensible and secure platform capabilities for payment processing and issuing products.
• Oversee the Accounts Receivable Automation Engineering team, focused on simplifying B2B payment acceptance, ERP integration, and payment straight through automation for small and micro business (SMB) customers.
• Manage the Integrations team responsible for the reliability and scalability of external platform integrations, including defining monitoring, escalation standards and accelerate customer onboarding and product reach.

AI & Innovation

• Champion an AI-first mindset across engineering functions.
• Architect, Implement and scale AI/ML solutions in product development, automation, testing, monitoring, and analytics.
• Incorporate AI into development pipelines to improve speed, quality, and predictive insights.

Engineering Operations & Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor a high-performing, cross-functional global engineering team.
• Foster a growth mindset culture rooted in collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning and accountability.
• Build agile processes to support fast, reliable, and secure deployments using CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code.

Scalability, Quality, and Security

• Ensure applications are resilient, scalable, secure, and meet high availability standards meeting SLAs for uptime, data protection and compliance.
• Work closely with Product, Platform, and Security teams to drive initiatives that reduce technical debt, improve resiliency, best in class observability and elevate user experiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner closely with Product, Architecture, and Platform Engineering leaders to align on technical strategy and delivery.
• Translate product and business goals into clear, actionable engineering plans with measurable success criteria, KPIs, KRIs and Metrics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 12+ years of experience in software/application engineering, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing multi-disciplinary teams in fintech and B2B Payments at scale.
• Proven experience leading globally distributed engineering teams including FTEs and contractors.
• Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, B2B payments, ERP integrations, and SaaS platforms.
• Track record of leveraging AI/ML for engineering productivity and innovation.
• Experience driving engineering excellence across all SDLC stages including testing, release management, and monitoring.
• Experience building resilient, extensible and scalable systems that support rapid business growth.
• Strong knowledge of modern security, risk mitigation and compliance practices (e.g., SOC 2, PCI-DSS).
• Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and execution skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position includes direct supervision of Directors, Managers, and senior-level engineers across multiple domains.
