PAWS Chicago’s Operations depend greatly on two major facets – our volunteer and foster programs. PAWS Chicago’s dedicated volunteers and fosters enable us to continue to save lives and expand the animal welfare services and resources we can offer. It would be impossible to fulfill the mission of a No Kill Chicago without them! In this internship, you’ll learn valuable skills that are crucial to supporting our operations and are also transferrable to other non-profit organizations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Shelter Management Interns engage in a variety of responsibilities under the supervision of PAWS Chicago staff. Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participating in community engagement & recruiting new volunteers and/or fosters
  • Ensuring a smooth workflow for volunteer and/or foster onboarding
  • Communicating with prospective and current volunteers and/or fosters
  • Maintaining various databases
  • Managing general email boxes and responding to messages in a timely manner
  • Preparing and analyzing reporting
  • Providing training guidance for new volunteers and/or fosters
  • Preparing for foster and/or volunteer appointments

Qualifications

Requirements/Helpful Skills:

  • Passion for animals and belief in our mission to create a No Kill Chicago.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, with the ability to represent the mission, goals, policies, and core values of PAWS Chicago in a sincere and energetic manner.
  • Ability to adapt, work collaboratively with a team, and solve problems proactively.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Commitment to a high level of customer service.
  • Basic computer skills, including e-mail and Microsoft Office.
  • A genuine interest in, and desire to learn more about animal welfare and the No Kill movement.

Intern schedule:

  • PAWS Chicago requires that interns complete 12-20 hours per week over the course of a typical (3-6 month) semester for a minimum of 100 hours on the job.
  • Schedules and work accommodations will be discussed individually.
  • This position is based out of the Medical Center (3516 W. 26th Street Chicago, IL 60623).
