Position Description:
ELOS is seeking a GIS Specialist/Analyst to assist a multidisciplinary team of accomplished GIS professionals and environmental scientists including biologists, ecologists, archaeologists, and project managers on a variety of projects. The GIS Specialist/Analyst, under supervision from the GIS Manager, is responsible for processing and managing spatial and tabular data in a variety of formats (.gdb, .shp, .kmz, .dwg (AutoCAD), Trimble, field notes, etc.). The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with staff to create maps, exhibits, and figures to support technical reports.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
- Collect, organize, and maintain spatial and tabular environmental data (e.g., wetlands, wildlife habitats, soil types, land use, waterways).
- Perform spatial analysis to support environmental impact assessments, site selection, habitat modeling, risk analysis, and mitigation planning.
- Create high-quality figures and graphics for technical reports, environmental permits, client presentations, and regulatory submittals.
- Ensure cartographic accuracy and adherence to project standards and symbology.
- Build and maintain geospatial databases for ongoing environmental monitoring or long-term projects.
- Preparing figures for permit applications and compliance documents for agencies such as the USACE and state environmental agencies.
- Coordinate with field teams to collect geospatial data using GPS and mobile GIS tools (e.g., Collector for ArcGIS, Survey123).
- Process and validate field data for integration into GIS projects.
- Work closely with environmental scientists, biologists, engineers, planners, and project managers to meet project goals.
- Translate technical environmental information into spatial data for stakeholder understanding.
- Use industry-standard GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) and spatial analysis tools.
- Develop and maintain web maps, dashboards, or mobile data collection apps when required.
- Review spatial data for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project specifications.
