The Development Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the fundraising and donor relations efforts of Atlanta Mission. This position is responsible for providing administrative and financial support to the Development department, ensuring smooth operations, and assisting with donor engagement. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with excellent communication and relationship management skills.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

   Development & Administrative Support

  • Administrative Support for Chief Development Officer and team: Coordinate team meetings, capture meeting minutes, send corresponding communications. Ensure the department remains organized and runs efficiently.

  • Track and manage invoices, expenses, and budget reporting for the Development team; coordinate with Accounting to ensure timely payments.

  • Assist in the annual financial budgeting process for the department.

  • Plan and coordinate team events, offsites, and annual planning meetings, including scheduling, preparing materials, taking minutes, and tracking action items.

  • Maintain department organization by managing office supplies, technology needs, and process improvements.

  • Keep all city, county, and state fundraising registrations up to date.

  • Oversee the ordering of branded merchandise and office supplies for Development, HR, and Volunteer team needs.

  • Manage the receipting process for financial donations, coordinating with external partners for printing and mailing.

 

Donor Relations & Communications

  • Monitor and respond to inquiries from the Atlanta Mission website and general info inbox.

  • Facilitate donor acknowledgment processes, including thank-you notes and honor/memorial gift acknowledgments

  • Provide logistical support for donor communications, including mailing appeals, event invitations, and newsletters.

  • Manage and respond to community comments and messages on Atlanta Mission’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

  • Oversee donor thank-you call programming to ensure timely and meaningful appreciation efforts.

  • Assist Development and Marketing teams with donor/sponsor stewardship by ensuring timely follow-ups and engagement, ensuring their contributions are acknowledged appropriately. 

Event Support

  • Partner with the Marketing team to provide planning and logistical support for donor events, including Annual 5K, Golf Tournament, Gala, Donor Appreciation Dinners, and other special events throughout the year.

  • Collaborate with the Development team to communicate sponsorship packages and benefits. 

  • Assist with coordinating event logistics, communicating with guests, vendors, and sponsors, and ensuring an excellent donor experience before, during, and after events.

Internal Communications & Cross-Team Support

  • Facilitate Internal Messaging & Engagement – Develop and distribute clear, engaging communications to keep staff informed about fundraising efforts, donor impact, and upcoming campaigns. Create content for internal newsletters, email updates, and intranet posts to enhance staff engagement with development activities.

  • Enhance Cross-Department Collaboration – Partner with HR, Marketing, and Program teams to ensure consistent messaging and communication around fundraising initiatives, donor engagement, and mission-focused events. Gather staff feedback to refine internal communications and improve clarity and effectiveness

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in executing successful fundraising events, preferably for nonprofit organizations.

  • Mission-driven, guided by core values and a passion for serving those experiencing homelessness

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with donors, sponsors, volunteers, and team members.

  • Proficiency in Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint and Excel

  • Must have strong written skills

Physical Job Requirements

  • Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing, sitting and/or walking)

  • Must have the ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator and computer printer

  • Must be able to communicate accurate information

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50lbs

  • Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors, and maintain close and distant vision

Special Job Requirements:

Travel between Atlanta Mission campuses (Atlanta and North East GA) and other events in the Atlanta area.
