ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the team to design Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) encompassing the DC, MVAC, LVAC and communication systems
- Work with the team to review or perform system studies such as underground ampacity, loss, and illumination studies
- Work with project teams to prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor the design, ensuring the progress of engineering projects
- Interact with clients to interpret their needs and project specific requirements
- Review manufacturer equipment drawings such as battery blocks, power conversion systems, transformers, switchboards, switchgear, and various power distribution accessories
- Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications
- Perform quality control and checks on project deliverables, including drawings and studies
- Direct designers and drafters on drawing requirements
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team lead(s) and Project Manager(s) for multi-scope projects
- Support development of standards, optimizations, and processes
- Work with team on changing trends in technology
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Engineering
- 1-3 years’ experience in LVAC and MVAC power distribution systems, with renewable energy experience being an asset
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, with ability to obtain P.Eng and PE licenses in the future
- Experience designing medium and low voltage cabling systems.
- Experience designing and reviewing switchgears, switchboards, panelboards, breakers and other protection device.
- Familiarity with national codes like the CEC/NEC and industry standards like IEEE, IEC, NETA, etc.
- Ability to organize, schedule, prioritize, and multi-task in a dynamic environment
- Ability to collaborate within a team environment
- Ability to efficiently communicate and report at all internal and external levels
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Exposure to and experience designing with different Inverter / PCS (power conversion system) equipment is a plus
- Exposure to different battery container systems, EMS and BMS is a plus
- Experience with system studies in software such as CYME, ETAP or related software a plus
- Master's Degree in Engineering with renewable energy focus a plus
- Experience with PV and Wind systems is a plus
- Construction experience a plus
- Experience working with BESS connections to existing Transmission, Distribution, substations and/or Solar and Wind projects and regulations a plus
- Ability to travel up to 10%
