Tierra Right of Way Services is seeking a GIS Specialist to build and maintain GIS databases and use GIS software to utilize spatial and non-spatial information to create detailed figures for technical/compliance reporting. The Specialist will manage a digital library of geographic maps in various file types and maintain knowledge of Environment Rating Scales Institute (ERSI) solutions. The position will work between 20-30 hours per week, preferably in our Tucson, AZ office, although remote candidates will be considered.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Essential Functions and Requirements:
- Enter various data types into GIS databases, such as text or spreadsheet files of latitude and longitude coordinates, tabular data, aerial or satellite imagery, and manual digitizing of paper maps or map images.
- Analyze GIS data to identify spatial relationships; review GIS data for currency and accuracy; document the parameters and context of GIS data; and create thematic maps for environmental and educational purposes.
- Use desktop GIS software to analyze data and create maps for internal purposes.
- Utilizes ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online or QGIS in data visualization
• Creates/designs digital maps and graphs, using GIS software and data collection equipment in support of technical compliance documents
• Gathers and reports on GIS data and determines how data sets are best utilized through GIS
• Consults with external stakeholders to access field data, satellite and aerial imagery, and maps
- Builds, manipulate, and update databases
• Enters new map data using cartographic principles
- Provides GIS support on company’s numerous ongoing archaeological, historical, and architectural history projects
- Converts KMZ’s to shapefiles and vice-versa;
- Operates and maintains GIS system hardware, software, and peripherals
- Performs other related duties as needed

The GIS Specialist must be able to remain in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods. The position operates office machinery including a computer, fax, and copy machine, and uses the wrists, hands, and fingers continuously. Will be required to lift up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
Travel:
No overnight travel is expected. However, the incumbent may run occasional in-town errands throughout the workday as needed.
Work Environment
The incumbent works in an office environment. No adverse weather or environmental conditions are expected.
