Position Summary:

The Weld 1st Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing day-to-day welding operations. This position ensures production schedules are met safely and efficiently, quality standards are upheld, and team members are supported and developed. The Lead acts as the liaison between the welders and upper management, helping to maintain workflow, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise welders and staff during assigned shift.
  • Assign work according to production schedules and ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure welds meet quality standards per blueprints, specifications, and company procedures.
  • Monitor safety compliance and promote a culture of safety.
  • Provide hands-on training and mentorship to team members.
  • Perform inspections, audits, and quality checks as required.
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., engineering, maintenance) to address issues.
  • Troubleshoot equipment or welding issues and escalate when needed.
  • Track and report shift metrics such as production output, downtime, and rework.
  • Monitor the completion of production goals throughout the shift and ensure team members are clocking into GSS (Global Shop Solutions) accurately and consistently.
  • Lead daily shift meetings and communicate updates effectively.
  • Enforce company policies and provide feedback or disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Model and promote the company’s core values of Credibility, Accountability, Leadership and Fairness in all interactions, fostering a positive, respectful, and high-performing team culture.
  • Other duties as assigned or as appropriate

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of welding experience.
  • 1–2 years in a leadership or lead role preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of welding procedures, blueprints, and safety standards.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 80 lbs and work in manufacturing conditions (heat, noise, etc.).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime or weekends as needed.
