Summary

 

The Assistant Dean of the Associate Degree Nursing Program is accountable to the Dean of The Richard and Sheila Young School of Nursing and ensures the integrity, excellence, and ongoing development of the associate degree nursing program. They will work closely with the Pre-licensure (PLD) Assistant and Associate Dean for the Bachelor of Science Nursing programs and the program directors for each PLD nursing program. The Assistant Dean is responsible for assisting and supporting the program’s administration in planning, curriculum, scheduling, faculty, meetings, events, service, and scholarly aspects. The Assistant Dean will represent the school at various events for nursing regarding curriculum planning, faculty development, marketing events, information sessions and meetings to guarantee its integrity.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Planning 

  • Assists and supports the Dean with the associate degree nursing program in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the curriculum.
  • Contributes to leadership vision for the program by maintaining active professional involvement with pedagogical direction in associate degree nursing programs and introducing new initiatives. 
  • Participates in and supports Dean in the administration of the associate degree nursing program.
  • Identifies and submits grants which support the PLD curriculum.

 

Curriculum Management 

  • Assists the Dean with activities related to curriculum and new program initiative implementation and development.  
  • Participates in analysis of outcome data and works with the Program Directors on revisions based on outcomes.

 

Schedule and Course Management 

  • Manages and oversees course scheduling and faculty staffing as directed by the Dean.
  • Assists the Program Directors with degree audits and curriculum plan changes.

 

Program Management 

  • Collaborates and promotes interdisciplinary/interprofessional education curricula with faculty supporting the associate degree nursing courses. 
  • Collaborates and assists the Program Directors and faculty in maintaining the quality and integrity of the associate degree nursing program, which includes evaluation of student course and faculty evaluation, curriculum workshops, and review of student integrity and/or progression issues. 
  • Assists in managing faculty orientation each semester. 
  • Assists the Dean in the evaluation of the Program Directors and the faculty. 
  • Participates in the PLD Faculty Meeting, PLD Curriculum Committee, Regis College Nursing Advisory Board, and any other appointed College or SON committee. 
  • Consults with the Admissions, Retention, and Progression Committee regarding specific policy or student matters.
  • Assists in monitoring accreditation guideline compliance for ACEN, NECHE, and other accreditation agencies.

 

Faculty Hiring and Management 

  • Manages and participates in the recruitment, interviewing, recommendation, and hiring of faculty for academic and/or administrative appointments. 
  • Implement a cohesive mentoring program in collaboration with the program directors and for newly hired nursing faculty. 
  • Promotes faculty development in teaching, research, leadership, and other scholarly activities as well as in community service. 
  • Ensures and supports a conducive teamwork environment, including resolving faculty/staff concerns.
  • Assists the Dean and Program Directors in activities related to faculty recruitment.

 

Student/Advising 

  • Collaborates and assists the Dean in monitoring admissions. 
  • Analyzes student retention data and provides reports and recommendations to the Dean. 
  • Monitors the Starfish advising system. 
  • Assists with activities related to recruitment and admissions on and off campus.

 

Technology Planning and Management 

  • In collaboration with the Program Directors and faculty, identifies software needs that enhance and support graduate nursing program needs.

 

Service/Scholarly Engagement 

  • Participates in nursing research/public policy/nursing education/ nursing leadership scholarly endeavors.

 

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Other responsibilities as designated by the Dean.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibility

 

  • Assists Dean with nursing Program Directors, faculty, and adjunct/clinical faculty.

 

Qualifications

Experience/Skills/Training Required

 

  • Earned doctoral degree or currently enrolled in doctoral program and related experience with online teaching.
  • Registered nurse in Massachusetts with a master’s degree in nursing.
  • Ability to uphold the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
  • Experience in writing grants, program administration, authoring scholarly papers and/or engaging in other scholarly activities.  
  • Commitment to community and professional service.
  • Desire to serve as a college and program advocate for faculty, students, and external professional organizations.

 

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

 

  • Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in noise, odors, etc.
  • May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions to assist staff and faculty 
  • Involves occasional evening and weekend work
