Job Summary:
The Journeyman Welder shall be knowledgeable of all aspects of welding. Journeyman Welders perform the most difficult welds required specifically in titanium, welds requiring x-ray inspection, and other critical welds. It is our intent that any welder classified as Journeyman be capable of performing such welds, including certifying in stainless steel, inconel as required by government, customer and company specifications. The welder will be responsible for assisting, advising, and share job knowledge with other welders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble and weld aerospace products (flex joint).
- Set up and operate welding machines without technical assistance.
- Follow manufacturing processes and procedures per MEP 1000-01.
- Perform at an acceptable quality and productivity level on all welding assignments.
- Execute tasks as assigned by shop management.
- Weld metal thicknesses from 0.010 to .250 inch.
- Direct and advise major maintenance on welding equipment.
- Direct and advise procurement of consumables for welding equipment.
- Assist, advise, and share job knowledge with other welders.
- Develop new weld schedules for welding machines as required by shop management or manufacturing engineering.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications necessary to perform welding task correctly.
- Recognize welding problems, troubleshoot and correct them accordingly.
- Capable of identifying and correcting weld defects according to production standards and/ or welding specifications.
- Capable of manufacturing shop aides to facilitate welding as needed.
- Must achieve internal certification for stainless steel, titanium, inconel, and aluminum alloy (as necessary) within 90 days.
- Will maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly, FOD-free fashion and adhere to all Safety standards.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma, Trade School Welding Certificate, or equivalent; previous manufacturing experience may be considered for education requirement.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

- Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in GTAW preferred
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of GTAW processes
- Must be able to weld manually and operate mechanized welding equipment (i.e. circumferential positioners and longitudinal seamer)
- Must be able to set up GTAW equipment
- Must be able to set up weld tooling
- Must be able to interpret weld symbols, engineering drawings and specifications necessary to perform welding task correctly
- Must be able to recognize welding problems, troubleshoot and correct them accordingly
- Ability to interpret blueprints, work orders and production planning documents
- Must have the ability to use standard manufacturing measuring instruments such as calipers, pin calipers, micrometers, tape measures, scales, height gauges, depth gauges, etc.
- Must be capable of working with tight tolerances such as + or - .002”
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to perform quality work in a safe and efficient manner
- Reliable and punctual attendance

Special Requirements:
- Must be able to pass visual acuity exam with 20/30 or better either corrected or uncorrected in each eye.
- This is an FAA-safety-sensitive classification.
