WHO ARE WE: The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is a federally recognized Indian Tribe located in Palm Springs, California, with 32,000 acres of reservation lands that spread across Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, and into the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains. The Tribe currently owns and operates two 18-hole championship golf courses, 3 casinos located in Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, and downtown Palm Springs, two world class spas, and a fuel station. The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum is a new 48,000 square-foot state-of-the-art museum, located in downtown Palm Springs, California and includes a large gallery for the story of the Agua Caliente people, a changing gallery to share exhibitions about Native peoples of the United States, a 1,000 square-foot store, education classroom, meetings rooms and an outdoor education garden.

 

Position Summary

The Visitor Services Associate position participates in day-to-day interactions with museum visitors in the admission area and the museum store. The individual should be comfortable informing and discussing a culture that may not be their own. The position will engage with many types of museum visitors and should be knowledgeable about the museum, it’s location, and the surrounding area in Palm Springs. The position greets museum visitors, processes sales, answers questions from visitors in both the admissions and the store and is responsible for learning and upholding museum policies and procedures.  A successful candidate will enjoy interacting with visitors, be confident in handling cash, and ensuring all engagement with visitors aligns with the Tribe’s voice and direction. They will also be cross trained in the exhibition galleries, store, and welcome desk.   This position reports to the Manager of Retail and Visitor Services.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with museum opening and closing routines
  • Assists in museum admissions and store sales
  • Cash handling and closing of assigned cash drawer
  • Covers for other team members for breaks
  • Answers main line phone calls for museum sales when scheduled
  • Maintains required level of information about museum and exhibits

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous retail experience preferred
  • Ability to pass background check and drug test
  • Weekend availability and the occasional evening as needed
  • A clear understanding and respect for the culture of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the mission of the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum

 

Work Environment

Typically, this position requires the employee to stand for extended periods of time, as well as walk, climb, crouch, and stoop.  The position will be mostly indoors with minimal time spent outside.  Using a computer and communicating with others will be a daily activity.  The position occasionally requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
