Job Summary
The Finish Product Packaging Operator works under the direction of the shift supervisor and group leader. Responsible for preparing bulk blends according to blending instructions provided by the Blender/Product Mgmt. department. The incumbent performs general manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, lifting and moving materials. The operator is responsible for drum and package filling. The operator may be assigned to any shift and may cross train with other plant operator positions. In the absence of this position, other Packaging Operators will provide backup.
Primary Responsibilities
- Food Safety is the responsibility of all Ventura Coastal manufacturing employees. All Ventura Coastal manufacturing employees must be aware of CCPs in their area and how to document them appropriately. All staff must report food safety and quality problems to their immediate supervisor in charge during their shift.
- Responsible to a specific CCP in the HACCP plan in regard to:
- CCP #2 – Juice Load Out or Packaging Screens.
- CCP #3 – Receipt of empty or full tanker, loading of tanker. This task is done by an operator, supervisors, Asst Plant Manager, Manager, Concentrate Operating or Sr. Production Clerk.
- CCP #4 – Packaging Integrity.
- Mix juice and ingredients according to specifications.
- Operate drum filling equipment to fill drums according to specification. Support all product packaging to include following all regulations/specifications.
- May also cross train to fill tanker trucks for shipment. Load and unload tankers per Product Management instructions.
- Operate refrigeration equipment, pasteurizer and CIP system.
- Clean and sanitize tanks and equipment as required.
- Assist in a variety of manual labor tasks as needed.
- Properly fill out required regulatory documentation per HACCP, Customer Requirements, etc.
- Follow all safety rules and practices to include the wearing of all essential personal protective equipment.
- Follow all personal hygiene and food safety practices.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, consistent punctuality and a conscientious attitude at all times.
- Act professionally towards customers, vendors and other visitors to the plant.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Basic computer skills such as the ability to operate a computer touch screen.
- Ability to read, speak and write English.
- Must have a forklift license or the ability to obtain one.
- High school graduate or equivalent desirable.
- Prefer at least one (1) year experience in a plant manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- The ability to meet flexible and changing priorities and the ability to work under pressure is a must. 100% standing, climbing ladders and stairs in a normal manufacturing environment. Ability to stand for the duration of the shift. Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
