Middle School Nurse (starting August 2025)

Qualifications

St. John’s School seeks a talented and knowledgeable full-time Middle School Nurse to start August 2025. In addition to relevant experience and a strong pediatric background, successful candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with middle school-aged students and a commitment to furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion.

 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Provide direct care to students for injuries, acute illness, and chronic health conditions
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policy
  • Identify community health concerns in accordance with established school health protocols
  • Establish and maintain an accurate clinic inventory, including storage and tracking process for all medication and supplies handled within the Clinical Services Department
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely student records
  • Communicate effectively with clinical team, school administration, parents/guardians, and health care providers
  • Review medical reports and interpret them for appropriate administrative action, consulting with the Director of Clinical Services as necessary
  • Conduct health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and complete state-required reports annually
  • Provide training for staff on health-related topics, including medication administration, seizure response, and epi-pen use
  • Participate in grade-level experiential overnight school trips each year

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing 
  • Active Registered Nurse license, issued by the Texas State Board of Nursing
  • Minimum three years of nursing experience, school nursing and pediatric experience preferred. 
  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED Usage
  • Strong assessment skills and the ability to make sound clinical decisions under pressure
  • Knowledge of childhood illnesses, immunization requirements, and health screening
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary school team
  • Proficiency in documenting care and using electronic health records or school-based health systems
