Position Title: Technical and Production Manager

Reports To: Curator of Public Programs and Performance

Status: Exempt – Salaried

Position Summary

The Technical and Production Manager (TPM) reports to the Manager of Public Programs and Performance and is a member of the Education team. The TPM is responsible for the Te Ata Theater and Founders Hall Dance Studio's technology, production, and facilities. They support a diverse, year-round arts center's programmatic, exhibition and event needs. This position is crucial in facilitating the high-quality programs, performances, events, and exhibitions that advance our mission. This position will work with production partners to advise on theater performances, and hire staff needed for weddings and conferences. As a manager, the TPM will hire, train and schedule part-time stagehands and technical production assistants. The position requires a positive, strategic, and proactive communicator who enjoys working cross-departmentally in a creative environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Advance all arts center events and correspond with appropriate personnel and external sources to effectively plan for and answer questions regarding the facility and its technical specifications.
• Verify all production details and requirements provided by internal and external sources.
• Determine the allowability of any equipment not owned by the arts center and coordinate with outside vendors for any rentals, delivery, setup, and use.
• Work with multiple departments to set production times (load in/ load out, rehearsal, performance, cleanup, etc.) and establish crew schedules.
• Prepare advance cost estimates for internal and external users for any additional labor and equipment. Work to adhere to budget requirements.
• Work with the Operations Team to determine the preparedness of spaces for public access.
• Develop, update and enforce policies for performance spaces in conjunction with the Director of Administration and Events Manager.
• Hire and train any part-time production staff and stagehands.
• Train relevant staff in the best production practices and basic theater functions and operations.
• Based on budget, purchase required equipment and materials.
• Oversee and ensure rigorous maintenance and care for all theatrical, stage, and event equipment and performance spaces.
• Attend departmental meetings, weekly cross-department production meetings, and monthly all-staff meetings.
• Due to the nature of this position, hours will vary each week due to the demands of Oklahoma Contemporary’s events and programs.
• Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Public Programs and Performance.

Education and Experience Requirements

• At least five years of professional experience in production management and/or technical direction; experience in major markets or on large national tours is a plus.
• Associate degree, Undergraduate or higher degree in technical production, theatrical design, theater studies or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of contemporary and traditional event production and presentation techniques for theatre, dance, music, opera, film, lectures and live events.
• Working knowledge of techniques and methods of stage carpentry, rigging, lighting, sound, projection and communications design, installation and preparation for theatrical or related performances and events.
• Keen ability to solve problems independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to design, operate and maintain technical lighting and sound equipment and systems.
• Familiarity with ETC consoles and equipment.
• Ability to oversee arts center staff and other non-professionals around theatrical equipment, ensuring safety and proper use of equipment and spaces.
• A positive, team-first attitude is a must.
• Ability to balance competing priorities in planning and execution of annual programming and rental events.
• Knowledge of basic first aid.
• Fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese is a plus.
