Description

Join our amazing team as a Scenic Painter for our various productions. This position involves duties under the supervision of the Theatre Technical Supervisor. Responsibilities include providing technical support to a theatrical production with scenery, sound and/or lighting design while working in close collaboration with the Technical Director, Stage Director and Costumer.

 

Schedule & Pay

Flexible hours in between the times of Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

This position entails an hourly pay rate. Hourly rate is $18.00 for in-person time (production meetings and other meetings with staff, attending rehearsals). 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for providing technical support to a theatrical production with scenery, sound and/or lighting design while working in close collaboration with the Technical Director, Stage Director and Costumer.

 

The Scenic Painter will be responsible for:

  • Professionally designs scenery, lighting or sound for all theatrical productions assigned based on input from the Stage Director.

  • Accurately designs scenery, lighting or sound within specified budgets, individual production requirements and the architecture of the theatre facility.

  • Proficiently provides and interprets the plans and designs for the set or lights.

  • May perform basic painting and/or final painting of scenic elements, lighting focus, lighting console programming, sound cue programming, set‐up of wireless microphones.

  • Routinely completes all scenery, lighting and sound in time for the first dress rehearsal.

  • Correctly maintains the scene shop or lighting and sound areas in a clean, safe condition.

  • Routinely attends production meetings as required by the Stage Director.

  • Diligently follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.

  • Follows safe work practices.

Qualifications

Requires a degree from a four‐year college or university with major course work in technical theatre and/or scenic lighting and sound design and two (2) years relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Plan, render, draft and execute a scenic, lighting or sound design from conception to completion

  • Convey designs both verbally and through renderings

  • Scenic design techniques

  • Lighting design techniques

  • Sound design techniques

  • Programming of lighting consoles and/or sound playback programs

  • Use all hand and power tools needed

  • District safety policies and procedures

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Work independently and efficiently

  • Interact with a community of artists, volunteers and participants—children through adult
