Senior Director of Finance

Nature of Work

This position is responsible for accounting for the organization including operational accounting (including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable) budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and financial statement reporting, which includes coordinating the annual audit and reporting to the Association’s Board of Directors.  Individuals in this position will develop, implement and oversee financial policies and procedures.  The Director of Finance will collaborate with the Executive Management team to engage in business strategy discussions focused on advancing the Association. Successful incumbents will leverage accounting expertise and an understanding of business and management principles to implement processes that enhance the business of the Alumni Association.

 

Responsibilities

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Responsible for the completion of accurate and timely monthly and quarterly management and financial statement reporting that is appropriate for board review in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare all financial reports and supporting information for the annual audit and the Finance and Audit Board Committee meetings.
  • Manage cash flow and prepare monthly cash flow forecasts.
  • Review and approve wire transfers and ACH payments, review bank statements, bank reconciliations and oversee distributions from the Associations endowment funds.
  • Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized and disposed of as necessary.
  • Stay apprised of IRS and FASB requirements; direct and implement policies, tax, and accounting changes. 
  • Responsible for the preparation of 990 annual tax returns.

Operational Duties

  • Oversee accounting staff, functions, and processes, including: accounts payable, payroll, reconciliation, pledges, accounts receivable, general ledger transactions, fixed assets and depreciation, and banking activity.
  • Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation, and prepare the annual budget in consultation with Association leadership.
  • Analyze and prepare monthly budget and forecast reports for Executive team and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee management of accounting software systems; evaluate and acquire new technology as needed.
  • Oversee annual retirement plan 403(b) audit, preparation, and filing of annual Form 5500 tax returns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; advanced degree preferred

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

 

Experience

Minimum of seven – ten years’ experience in finance or accounting required

Proven ability to independently make journal entries and general ledger debits/credits and experience preparing financial statements and trial balances required

Not-for-profit accounting or financial reporting experience required

Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred

Management experience strongly preferred

 

Skills

  • Use of accounting software packages, preferably Sage Intacct
  • Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Tableau

Work Environment: 

The position is in an office setting within the OSU Alumni Center.  Events and activities may be held outside so there will be some outdoor exposure. Position requires availability to work nights and weekends as determined by event scheduling.  Travel is required in and out of state.

  • Position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Position needs to be able to transport parcels, packages and other items short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up material
  • Position frequently communicates with staff, and must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently move items weighing up to 50 pounds
