AFM’s team of professionals is focused on meeting client needs by providing a complete range of forestry services including land and wildlife management, land sale and acquisition services, forest inventory and design, growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, environmental and farmland services, appraisal, forest resource data management and harvest scheduling.
AFM is seeking to expand its service offerings by offering surveying services tailored to the needs of timberland owners. To support this initiative, we are seeking a licensed and experienced Land Surveyor to take the lead in developing and growing this new service area.
The role will involve conducting surveys to establish ownership boundaries and corners, creating real estate development and platted surveys, and supporting land management activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in forestry/residential-related surveying, possess strong technical skills, and the ability to work in challenging outdoor environments.

Office Location:
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development and implementation of surveying services for timberland clients
• Drive business development efforts, including client outreach and relationship building
• Provide oversight of all technical aspects of surveying projects,
• Conduct boundary line and corner location surveys on timberland and residential properties.
• Conduct surveys to establish land developments and plats on undeveloped land.
• Utilize GPS, GIS, total stations, and other surveying instruments to collect accurate field data.
• Work closely with foresters, land managers, and GIS teams to integrate survey data into property management plans.
• Identify and mark existing property lines, easements, and other land features.
• Research deeds, land records, and historical maps to verify property boundaries.
• Prepare detailed survey maps, reports, and legal descriptions.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal land surveying regulations.
• Assist in road layout and infrastructure planning as needed.
• Maintain survey equipment and ensure proper calibration.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geospatial Engineering, or a related field.
• Michigan Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
• 2-5 years of experience in land surveying, preferably in forestry or natural resources.
• Proficiency in GPS, GIS software, Trimble mapping software (or equivalent), and survey instruments.
• Strong understanding of land boundaries, legal descriptions, and public land survey systems.
• Ability to work in rugged, remote outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote sites.
Preferred Skills:
• Ability to also be licensed in Wisconsin.
• Experience with creating Real Estate developments.
• Familiarity with state and federal land use regulations.
