Summary, Job Description, and Qualifications

Job Title:                                Behavioral Health Mentor

FLA:                                        Contract; 3-5 hours per month minimum

Reports To:                            Program Supervisor or Director

Direct Reports:                      None


 

Summary:

As a partner in building brighter futures for youth and their families, your role will be to provide relief to Foster caregivers and support activities that align with The Village Network’s Mission, Vision & Values.

 

Essential Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Supports and provides temporary relief for Foster caregivers for 3-5 hours at least once per month.
  • Provides behavior management in the following ways:
    • Supporting client’s efforts toward treatment goals
    • Role model and teaching appropriate skills and behaviors
    • Implement the 6 R’s strategies when working with clients
    • Utilize Collaborative Problem Solving
  • Responsible for assisting with crisis de-escalation as needed.
  • Engages with client family members.
  • Presents in a professional and courteous manner in all interactions.
  • Interacts with clients within TVN’s trauma informed models.
  • Temporarily assists in the transportation needs.  
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires a High School Diploma; Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services or related field desired.
  • 2+ years of experience working with youth required.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to use a computer, proficiency with Microsoft Office products. 
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and maintains a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable with the insurance company providing The Village Network with vehicle insurance.  In addition, travel to homes of clients/students is necessary.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to comply with The Village Network requirements for using restraints including sufficient strength and completion of extensive training.
  • Ability to handle bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, reaching, and walking for periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds independently.
  • Must be able to remain alert to problems, needs or emergencies that might arise on any shift, maintaining a safe environment for the clients.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) with all levels or personnel, internal and external to the company.
