The HR Benefits Specialist I is responsible for administration of all benefit programs managed by the Human Resources department, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and wellness.  In addition, the Benefits Specialist I assists with the administration of leaves of absence such as FMLA and ADA.  Finally, this role is responsible for maintaining positive and effective relationships with all benefit related vendors.  This position reports to the Sr. Director of Employee Life Cycle.

 

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefit enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility and enrollment information.
  • Provides, presents and reviews all benefit information, including plan changes, to new hires, current employees, and terminated employees, as appropriate.
  • Performs quality checks on all benefit-related data to ensure accuracy and data integrity.  If issues are found then promptly corrects them.
  • Develops and distributes all benefit enrollment information/materials and determines eligibility of employees.
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues.
  • Processes and administers disability paperwork.
  • Ensures all benefit plans are administered in compliance with plan documents and the law.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefit enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Responsible for the open enrollment process and the off-boarding process for benefits.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with all vendors to ensure the integrity and accuracy of administration of benefits.
  • Leads the wellness program so that there are wellness activities for employees throughout the year.
  • Assists employees and managers with medical leave requests including ADA and FMLA in a timely manner.  Ensures accurate record keeping for leave requests including communications, tracking and in e3.  Ensures compliance with appropriate laws and Terros Health policies.
  • Assist with workers compensation administration, including OSHA postings and filings.
  • Assists employees with accommodation requests in a timely manner.
  • Participates in departmental projects.
  • Assists with retirement plan administration, as needed.
  • Provides back-up to front-office.

 

Starting Pay: $22.52

Qualifications

  • Required:  2 years’ experience in benefits administration and High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred:  4 years’ experience in benefits administration and Bachelors’ Degree in related discipline
  • Must possess: Well-developed critical thinking, analytical abilities, time management, organizational, conflict resolution and good judgement skills.
  • Proficiency using the MS Office suite, particularly word and excel
  • Proficiency with benefits module of HRIS systems
  • Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card or apply for an Arizona fingerprint clearance card (Level 1) within 7 working days of employment
  • Must pass a TB test
  • This role is a non-driving position. This position is performed at one location and does not require travel to various Terros Health centers on a regular basis.  May be 18 years of age and with less than two years’ driving experience or no driving experience.
