POSITION SUMMARY:

Family Engagement staff is responsible for providing quality care in a safe, positive, nurturing, and fun environment to children between the ages of 6 months and 18 years old. Child Watch Staff will supervise children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years old while their parents are using the YMCA facilities.  The Pepsi Cube Rec Room staff will supervise children between 8 years and 18 years old while their parents may or may not be in the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Follow all program policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention Policies.
  2. Communicate positively with members, children, parents and other staff. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Assertiveness to deal with appropriate discipline and/or accident and incidents.
  4. Report any risk management issues including, red flag behavior, suspected child abuse, accidents and incidents to your supervisor.
  5. Ensure that the rooms are kept clean and organized. Maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  6. Monitor room, toys, and equipment for safety.
  7. Engage children in fun activities that promote and teach YMCA Mission and Core Values.
  8. Organize and lead a variety of activities if necessary.
  9. Complete and assist in maintaining accurate records; sign in, cleaning, and incident/accident reports.
  10. Show professional appearance every shift including wearing appropriate staff uniform.
  11. Perform all other duties assigned by the Family Engagement Director

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Never convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse
  2. Minimum age of 16.
  3. Experience leading and/or supervising children.
  4. Knowledge of appropriate activities for various age levels – including skill and ability to implement curriculum.
  5. Previous experience preferably within our camp setting working with diverse children
  6. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 60 days of hire.
  7. Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity.
  8. Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  9. Strong communication (both written and verbal) skills with the ability to be flexible and quickly adapt.
  10. Demonstrated commitment and passion to develop youth in a recreational setting.
  11. Self-motivated and ability to multi-task

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).  Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.  The ability to calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation.
