Summary: The role of the Associate Director of Residential Life is to foster a healthy and inclusive residential environment where each girl feels empowered to live comfortably and grow. This position requires a responsible, caring, energetic, and engaged professional who is interested in helping high school girls make connections, develop relationships, and navigate all aspects of community living. The Associate Director of Residential Life is responsible for being an active participant in the residential life program and supporting the overall administrative and supervisory needs of the department.
This position includes on duty residential life assignments including office coverage, overnight duty and weekend shifts. Additional responsibilities for the Associate Director of Residential Life fall into the leadership aspect of the position, including supervision of other staff, problem-solving, presence at programmatic events and more.
Important Hiring Requirement
Due to the unique nature of this position, which requires the employee to have the ability to access and monitor the living quarters and personal spaces of female students, most of whom are under 18 years of age, only female candidates will be considered for this role. Essential Job Functions:
Residential Life Program
- Collaborate with the Director of Residential Life (DRL) and others in the planning, coordination and implementation of the goals of the residential life program.
- Must be regularly accessible to students when on campus, whether formally or informally, willing to share personal space, to create a homelike environment. Required to attend important Residential Life programmatic events. These events include, but are not limited to: family dinners, intentional programs, prayer services, the annual boarding hall fall and spring retreats, birthday and cultural dinners, etc.
- Administers policies that govern residential life in collaboration with the Director of Residential Life. When necessary, works with the DRL to establish or modify existing procedures.
- Works with the school nurse and DRL to administer medicine and provide medical support to students.
- Work with boarding families as a liaison to communicate Residential Life policies and procedures, important dates, hall closures, and other areas of concern.
- Moderates and leads the student leadership team, the Residential Life Leadership Council, through leading weekly meetings, developing student leadership and collaborating with the Assistant Principal of Student Life and Culture.
- Provide coverage to Residential Life Supervisors on an as needed basis.
- Required to meet every Tuesday for all staff meetings.
Residential Life Emergencies
- If the DRL is off-campus the Associate Director is in charge of any emergencies decisions that occur on campus after regular business hours with aptitude of making executive decisions
- Must keep composure and lead during emergency situations. Follow and enforce all school emergency procedures which include roll-call, calling proper authorities as needed, and reporting to higher administrator or authorities any missing students. All while prioritizing the safety and well-being of the residential life students.
Staff Supervision and Development
- When the DRL is off campus or unavailable, act in an “on call” manner, as necessary.
- Work with the DRL to ensure there is appropriate resident hall coverage throughout the academic year.
- Participate in the interview and selection of staff members in the Residential Life Program.
- Attend professional development such as campus visits, TABS conferences, and online enrichment as requested by the DRL.
Administration and Admissions
- Maintains and updates the Residential Life google shared drive.
- Responsible for tracking student paperwork and files
- In collaboration with the DRL, oversee disciplinary matters as they relate to student conduct within the Residential Life program.
- Responsible for tracking students grades and partnering with the students grade level counselors, teachers and other Residential Life staff to support students who are struggling academically
- Coordinates with Facilities to oversee the procurement, maintenance and care of the dormitories and faculty housing.
- Collaborate with Campus Safety and Security to maintain a safe and secure environment for all members of the program.
- Conducting interviews of international student applicants
- May need to travel domestically and internationally to help with recruitment of residential life students
- Other duties as assigned by the President or Principal.
