JOB SUMMARY

The Development Associate at the Dayton Art Institute is responsible for the development and implementation of programs and initiatives designed to build membership enrollment and create strong connections within our community. The Development Associate supports the current membership base including reporting and analysis, strategy and traffic management for membership efforts, and data management. Working closely with Marketing, Guest Services and Development staff, the Development Associate implements, establishes, and achieves specific revenue goals and identifies appropriate measurement metrics to ensure the sustainability and growth of DAI’s philanthropic support.

The Development Associate is responsible for executing the Museum’s giving program, with a primary focus on annual gifts up to $5,000. The Development Associate helps to plan, guide and direct strategies to increase individual, corporate and foundation donor gifts and tracks all results.

This position has direct contact with museum donors, often with the exchange of confidential information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executes best practices in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and corporate donors while acquiring new donors, with a primary focus on membership, mission-based and special event fundraising.
  • Maintains high conversion rates of new prospects into donors through personalized engagement, including one-on-one meetings, lunches, receptions and breakfast engagements.
  • Actively develops and executes signature and mission-based fundraising events.
  • Fosters strong relationships with current and prospective donors, ensuring long-term support and engagement with the museum.
  • Creates and executes personalized engagement strategies for donors and prospects, tailored to align with individual donor interests, maximize engagement and effectively solicit contributions.
  • Partners with Marketing, Communications and Guest Services team to implement promotions, partnerships, and communications that promote the membership experience and planned giving.
  • Ensures that all donors are promptly thanked, recognized, and updated on the impact of their contributions.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records of all donor interactions and contributions, ensuring data integrity and easy accessibility.
  • Generates reports to measure results of membership campaigns, and overall membership retention and growth. Monitors progress towards revenue goals and provides reports for senior management.
  • Manages maintenance of records related to donations, gifts, pledges and membership transactions, membership cards for new and renewing memberships (including gift memberships, memorials, and any other fundraising program). Works closely with team to maintain security, accuracy, and integrity of database.
  • Perform other duties as appropriately assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Associate does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, marketing or a related field, or 2 years of experience in database management in a nonprofit or fundraising environment, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in using fundraising databases (Museum uses Altru), data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is primarily based in an office setting, with frequent movement throughout the museum and its grounds. It requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, frequent use of hands and fingers for handling objects and tools, and effective communication in person, over the phone, and via email. Specific vision abilities needed include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role may occasionally involve lifting up to 20 pounds.
