ABOUT THE ROLE
Under the supervision of the Immigration Services Program Director, the Legal Advocate supports the program’s staff with outreach, assistance, advocacy, and communications to the immigrant community with respect to naturalization and immigration legal services. The Legal Advocate provides key case support including but not limited to conducting prescreening or intakes, client communication, application assistance, and legal advocacy. Areas of immigration services primarily include naturalization and DACA but may include other forms of relief as needed. The Legal Advocate will maintain a caseload while being supervised by the Program Director.
Your day-to-day responsibilities:
65% Provide immigration legal assistance, including but not limited to:
- Conducting legal intakes and consultations for various immigration remedies;
- Conducting legal research for immigration and naturalization matters;
- Provide immigration application assistance for clients;
- Maintain an active caseload of simple and complex cases to meet our quarterly/ yearly deliverables; and
- Provide language and translation support when needed.
25% Technical Assistance and Support:
- Provide legal support for immigration clinics and workshops;
- Provide technical assistance for community partners; and
- Provide training and support with platforms such as SignNow and Citizenshipworks—online technology tools used for remote service delivery.
10% Other Immigration Services Program activities, including:
- Attend trainings and continuing legal education around relevant immigration topics;
- Callback and intake support as needed; and
- Assist with naturalization-related outreach to targeted communities.
