ABOUT THE ROLE
Under the direction of the Program Director of Home Preservation, the Staff Attorney is responsible for counseling and representing in home preservation issues which include eviction defense or other tenant defense matters in Los Angeles and Orange County area. The Staff Attorney will interview and counsels' clients of legal rights and issues, litigate eviction cases, conducts legal research and writing, provide community education and participate in clinics.  Â

Your day-to-day typically includes:
Â
70% Client SupportÂ
- Handle a high volume of a variety of home preservation issues including housing, housing discrimination, landlord-tenant disputes, eviction defense including representation in depositions, settlement negotiations, court hearings and trials in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, and other related housing law mattersÂ
- Counsel and advise clients of legal rights and options, draft legal pleadings and conduct legal research and writingÂ
- Conduct community legal clinics/workshops; train volunteers and pro-bono attorneys to serve clients and communitiesÂ
- Advocate for clients' interests through legal actions and may engage in policy advocacy to address broader housing issues.Â

20% Community EducationÂ
- Coordinate client services with legal interns, legal assistant/advocate, and partner service organizationÂ
- Coordinate and conduct community education and outreach; develop and revise community education materials including training manual and brochuresÂ
Â
10% Other Duties as AssignedÂ
- Participate in the development and implementation of annual practice work planÂ
- Attend trainings on substantive legal areasÂ
