Summary of Position

This Jr. Venture Analyst position is a unique opportunity to enter Ohio’s venture capital landscape and experience all critical aspects of the investing process in an active, high-performing portfolio of 70 early-stage technology companies.

The Jr. Venture Analyst is highly motivated by learning, problem solving and takes pride in delivering highest-quality work product that is an integral part of the JOGC team.

 

*This is a hybrid position, which currently requires a minimum of two in-person days per week in the Columbus office.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Transaction Support:

  • Assist in evaluating inbound leads against investment criteria, manage top of the funnel.
  • Manage internal portfolio CRM platform, ensuring the highest quality of process compliance.
  • Assist with financial diligence often augmented by qualitative research using various industry databases and systems.
  • Assist with the preparation of extensive briefing document packages to support investment decisions.
  • Work with the portfolio companies directly to manage ongoing compliance and reporting processes.
  • Manage portfolio post-close processes.
  • Assist in providing strategic value to portfolio companies through JOGC’s and JobsOhio’s network.
  • Help maintain database of venture and strategic investors.
  • Research market areas and sectors of strategic interest to JOGC.

Fund Management Support:

  • Assist with managing Portfolio Management systems to the highest levels of data accuracy by recording financings, valuation changes, and write-offs.
  • Assist with fund-level modeling efforts and capital planning.

Communications and Marketing Support:

  • Coordinate relevant PortCo communications efforts.
  • Represent JOGC fund at select external and internal stakeholder events.

Qualifications

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in a startup, VC fund, investment bank or MBA
  • Strong in both qualitative research and quantitative analysis specific to venture funded companies
    • Understanding of and technical ability to interpret, analyze and create scenarios of venture financings of an early-stage enterprises;
    • Understanding of and ability to interpret/analyze the fundamentals of business financials;
    • Ability to research, understand and interpret fundamentals of market trends and Portfolio Company comparables.
  • Demonstrated appreciation for collaboration, entrepreneurial endeavoring and analysis.
  • Familiar with CRM tools and systems like SalesForce, Airtable, etc..
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word, Power Point and document management.
  • Proactive, intellectually curious, and self-motivated; proven ability to navigate ambiguity; ability to multi-task, prioritize and complete projects independently on timely basis.
