Music Library Assistant

SUMMARY

 

The Music Library Assistant will support the work of the Music Library, primarily working to prepare piano/vocal scores, orchestral parts, and full scores for HGO’s Concert of Arias production. This is a full-time temporary position from Monday, December 1, 2025 – Sunday, February 8, 2026.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the Music Librarian in sourcing, proofreading, and preparing musical materials, including piano/vocal scores, orchestral parts, and full scores;

  • Edits and marks music materials, notating changes using both hand and computerized engraving techniques, including but not limited to cuts, stops/starts, bowings, score cleanup, errata, and inserts;

  • Excerpts, prints, binds, and scans orchestral scores and parts;

  • Researches instrumentation, editions, rights, and materials for arias and orchestral excerpts in consultation with the Music Librarian and Director of Artistic Partnerships & Music Planning;

  • Assists the Music Librarian in orchestra rehearsal and concert duties;

  • Assembles orchestra folders.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate should possess 1 – 3 years of opera or orchestral library experience; proficiency in MS Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, photo editing software, and music notation software; clear penmanship, and excellent attention to detail. Candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills, a positive and professional demeanor, the ability to remain flexible and adaptable in their work, and the ability to work independently.

 

SPECIAL JOB CHARACTERISTICS

Candidate must be able to work evenings and weekends. Requires the ability to roll large music cabinets and carry heavy score materials.

Travel and housing assistance will be provided for an out-of-town candidate.
