The Social Media Coordinator plays a pivotal role in devising and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy, overseeing the social media calendar, and providing on-site coverage of Houston Grand Opera (HGO) live events. This role involves crafting and maintaining current messaging and external communications across HGO’s social media channels and website. Following the leadership of the Director of Marketing and Digital Content Manager, this person will work closely with colleagues across the organization to execute the social media strategy, aiming to enhance brand recognition and foster positive audience engagement.

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Collaborate proactively with the marketing and communications team to formulate data-driven social media campaigns, ensuring the consistent and timely publication of content across all major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn (and other social media platforms as assigned), maintaining a consistent posting schedule.  

  • Collect, edit, and manage digital assets (photos, videos, content) from various departments for social media marketing, ensuring brand consistency.  

  • Work closely with Audiences team to ensure social media campaigns support cross-departmental and cross-organization goals, aiming for a cohesive message in all HGO channels and communication.  

  • Generate engaging content during HGO events by capturing photos and videos, crafting compelling narratives, and optimizing multimedia assets to promote HGO’s brand, productions, and community events.  

  • Use social media platforms to deliver strategic and captivating content that resonates with the target audience. Develop and implement growth-oriented strategies aimed at increasing relevant followers and nurturing a devoted social media community by actively engaging with customers across all social media platforms.  

  • Set clear objectives, report on key metrics, and consistently analyze insights to measure and assess the effectiveness of online and interactive engagement efforts. Monthly KPI reports will be submitted to the Digital Marketing Manager, Director of Marketing and CMXO.  

  • Assist in updating website content and building new pages, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.  

  • Coordinate with various artists, external HGO social media accounts (such as HGO Orchestra, Chorus, etc.)  to ensure streamlined content that aligns with brand guidelines, including the coordination of cast takeovers and talent-lead social content. 

 

Qualifications 

 

  • 2+ years of marketing, social media, and communications experience required.   

  • In-depth knowledge of major social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and a track record of effectively managing and growing social media accounts (Google Analytics a plus).   

  • Proven strong writing skills, content development, and proof-reading strategies.   

  • Skill in creating engaging and visually appealing content, including writing, image selection, and basic graphic design. Photography and video editing a plus.   

  • Ability to maintain and enhance brand consistency in messaging, tone, and visual elements across all social media channels.   

  • Good customer service skills for addressing inquiries and issues on social media platforms.   

  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in social media algorithms, trends, and emerging platforms.   

  • Knowledge of opera and classical music is a plus.

Detail-oriented with attention to process, the ability to multi-task, work quickly and efficiently, and function with minimal supervision while working against deadlines in a fast-paced environment is required. Must be a team player and possess excellent interpersonal & customer service skills. Periodic weekend and night work required.  

  • This position requires a highly self-motivated, creative individual with experience and a passion for connecting with current and future customers. This individual should be engaging with the online audience daily, with the goal of turning fans into customers.  

  • An essential component is communicating the company’s brand in a positive, authentic way 

 

Physical Demands
