General Purpose

The Director of Human Resources provides overall management of the Human Resources function for the organization. This department has direct responsibility for Employee Relations and Investigations, Worker’s Compensation, General Liability and Insurance, Recruiting, Benefits and Leave of Absence, HRIS management, Occupational Health and Safety, and Pre-Service Orientation. This position effectively administers all areas related to Human Resources in accordance with Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the Human Resources department.
  • Responsible for the management of litigation and legal matters related to HR, disciplinary matters, employee investigations, grievances, performance management, recognition, and morale,
  • Collaborates with business management to understand the organization’s goals and strategies related to talent management, recruiting, and retention.
  • Oversees the administration of the Human Resources programs including but not limited to; benefits, leave of absence, occupational health and safety, worker’s compensation, general liability, pre-service orientation, personnel records management, and recruiting.
  • Works with business management to identify and validate staffing needs.
  • Develops and executes best practices for talent acquisition and retention.
  • Reviews and reports on monthly and annual turnover trends and develops recommendations related to the trends.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with Federal, State, and Local employment laws and regulations and recommends best practices related.
  • Assists with the creation of and updates to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in Human Resources, Talent Management, and Employment Law. Applies this knowledge to communicate recommended changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
  • Develops and implements department budget.
  • Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. Master’s Degree in Human Resources preferred. 
  • Three years’ of results-oriented human resources experience and/or comparable legal experience required. 
  • Three years of supervisory experience, preferably in human resources.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines concerning human resources.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS systems; Paycom experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical office setting. Work in excess of 40 hours may be required in a given workweek in order to meet deadlines. The primary working hours will be Monday – Friday, 8AM – 4:30PM with on call hours as needed. Travel will be required throughout the local Midlands area.

Supervision

This Director of Human Resources reports to the Sr. Director of Administration.  

Relationships and Contacts with Others

The Director of Human Resources must maintain a professional working relationship with internal and external customers.

Typical Physical Demands 

Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, frequent lifting and manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Must have a normal range of vision and hearing.

Typical Mental Demands: 

Must be able to cope with stress associated with working in a fast-paced environment and multi-tasking.

 

Hazards/Potential Hazards:

Cleaning chemicals, ergonomic hazards: static postures, repetitive motion, trip hazards such as file drawers and electrical wires.
