POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education:  
    • High School degree or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s or LMHT (Licensed Mental Health Technician) preferred
    • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid certified training required
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required
  • Minimum Experience:  Experience with youth in residential setting preferred
  • Must have good command of the English language; must be able to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a professional manner, in order to document and communicate therapeutically with residents and staff
  • Must have good reading skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with referral sources and external care providers
  • Must be able to quickly access data, assimilate information, and respond appropriately to situations
  • Must be able to interact in a positive, non-reactive manner with residents, their parents/ caregivers, and staff
  • Must be able to stand for periods of up to 2 hours
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, squat, and hold on to a person, in order to restrain an out-of-control resident
  • Must be able to escort residents from building to building within 5-10 minutes
  • Must be able to understand the special needs and behaviors of, and be able to care for, troubled children and adolescents
  • Must be emotionally mature and able to handle multiple demands and duties
  • Must be in good physical condition to be able keep pace with active youths
  • Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all job duties listed
  • Must be willing to work a combination of daytime and evening shifts, in addition to one weekend shift per month
  • Must be proficient at basic keyboarding/word-processing skills
  • Must be able to pass Kansas Bureau of Investigation Screen and the Central Registry Screen for both adults and children
