Position Summary:
The Payroll Tax Specialist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations related to payroll processing. This role involves managing tax filings, reconciliations, and responding to tax authority inquiries. The specialist will work closely with payroll, HR, and finance teams to support the accurate and timely processing of payroll taxes for a healthcare organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately prepare and file payroll tax returns at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Ensure compliance with payroll tax laws and regulations, including maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax legislation changes.
- Reconcile payroll tax reports and payments on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Review and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, collaborating with payroll teams to identify and correct issues.
- Handle inquiries from tax authorities, including preparing documentation for audits or compliance reviews.
- Process year-end tax forms (e.g., W-2s) and ensure timely distribution to employees.
- Maintain payroll tax system updates and ensure accurate application of tax rules for all payroll processes.
- Collaborate with internal departments to support any payroll tax-related projects or initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support on payroll tax matters to associates, Payroll and HR teams.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in payroll tax, preferably in a healthcare or large organization setting.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations across multiple states.
- Proficiency with payroll software and systems, experience with ADP Smart Compliance and Workday software is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Experience handling payroll tax audits and working with tax authorities is a plus.
