BECS, a Lerch Bates Company, is seeking an Associate Consultant to join our team! The Associate Consultant is responsible for identifying, planning, directing, and overseeing all aspects of BECS projects. This role will primarily oversee multiple projects and provide solutions and recommendations to clients. Acts as technical liaison on matters pertaining to the field of practice; applies advanced techniques, modifications, and theories. and a high degree of discretion and judgment. What You’ll Do:

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed in this position. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that management may make.

 

  • Learn on the job from Consultants, Sr. Consultants, Technical and Area Directors, as well as other business partners and outside sources of industry knowledge, skills, and best practices to be able to work independently as a Consultant within two years.  Responsibilities to be developed include:
    • Direct client liaison and technical lead for building enclosure consulting and commissioning (BECx) services on both new construction and major renovation projects
    • Performance of design/technical peer reviews of architectural drawings for water, thermal, air, and vapor control systems, to include consideration of: curtain walls, storefront systems, design of new wall systems, masonry restoration, integration of new walls/windows, etc.
    • Attendance at design review meetings to discuss recommendations made to improve systems performance.
  • Perform all of the other essential functions of a Consultant with varying degrees of assistance from others, including but not limited to:
    • Collaborative participation at design, pre-construction, and construction phase meetings to discuss client and project team positions on reviewed documents; offer insightful evaluation and sound recommendations
    • Lead (or participate in) pre-construction meetings to ensure that the respective parties are aware of the potential challenges associated with the building envelope
    • Act as the on-site liaison for BECS clients and primary vendors on site
    • Expert understanding of enclosure installation quality and timing of events and the upstream and downstream impacts on the schedule
    • Perform and or facilitate building envelope-related field testing (ASTM E783, E1105, AAMA 501.2, ASTM E779, etc.) as needed 
    • Manage active projects with assistance to ensure client satisfaction, exceptional responsiveness, quality of deliverables, timeliness of delivery, and tracking and maintaining project budgets. 

COMMUNICATION:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to Clients and prospective Clients; own and develop the Client relationship
  • Explore and capitalize on opportunities to enhance service with or up sale existing clients/projects
  • Proactively keep clients and stakeholders informed of project status and changes
  • Initiates and maintains continual communication with clients and project team members to facilitate project activities

TRACKING:

  • Perform project tracking and quality control, including regular project status reviews of actual vs. planned; facilitate project status and review meetings internally and with the client; take appropriate actions to address variance to project plan; follow standardized procedures for change orders and all BECS processes/procedures
  • Manage time, budgets, and resources effectively using the department tools; maintain and communicate schedule
  • Ensure personal utilization consistently meet established goals

 

 

What You’ll Bring:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline:  Civil, Structural, Construction, Architecture.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience in the architecture, engineering, and/or construction industry.
  • Knowledge of the industry, including advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas: roofing systems, exterior cladding systems, horizontal and vertical waterproofing systems, glass and glazing, exterior sealants, and weather barriers.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to coordinate timely scheduling, client responsiveness, project and task level budgets, time management, and accuracy of invoices.
  • Highly organized and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Expert understanding of enclosure installation quality and timing of events and the upstream and downstream impacts to the schedule
  • Excellent skills in technical writing and oral communication.
  • Flexible, responsive, and confident multi-tasker able to work independently, handle multiple deadlines and accommodate shifting priorities
  • Deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to execute tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to quality, organization, meticulous attention to detail, and consistency in work product
  • Intermediate or better proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and PowerPoint.

Working Environment:


This role involves both physical and mental demands and may be performed in various settings, including offices, construction sites, and confined spaces like elevator pits. Tasks often require frequent movement in multiple directions. Lerch Bates will provide reasonable accommodations upon request through Human Resources.

Physical Demands:
 

This role requires regular sitting, talking, and hearing in meetings and by phone. Employees must navigate tight spaces, climb ladders, move around construction sites, take measurements, and travel by car, air, or rail. Duties may involve working at heights and in confined spaces, using hands for tasks like typing and operating elevator components, and applying up to 30 lbs. of force. Close visual attention is also required.

Mental Demands:
 

This position requires strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Employees must interpret complex information, apply mathematical and logical reasoning, quickly learn new skills, and manage detailed, multitask workloads under shifting deadlines. Regular interaction with executives, colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders is also expected.
