The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) welcomes Internal and External applications for the role of Facilities Grounds Laborer until  Midnight Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

 

This is service and maintenance work in performing maintenance for both airside and landside grounds for the Jacksonville International Airport Aviation Authority. Work requires the knowledge of work routines and procedures used in maintaining grounds work which is learned on the job. The incumbent will have contact with employees and contractors and will require basic courtesy and tact. The maintenance work is strictly routine, following specified instructions and established work routines involving similar situations. The work is performed outside where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Operates power equipment, wheel tractors, mobile sweepers, air hammers, flatbed truck, forklifts, and other types of equipment while performing routine equipment maintenance. The physical demands consist of walking, standing, sitting, and bending, exposure to sun, rain, dust, dirt, and other unpleasant conditions and lifting and repairing equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The work is performed under immediate supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures and routines.  The work requires the ability to perform shift work (day, night, and overnight) as required, as well as assist other departments with facility or customer needs.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Performs a variety of routine to skilled maintenance work in the repair of grounds at JAA.
  • Performs landscape and minor construction
  • Performs asphalt, concrete, and fence repairs.
  • Conducts property security and safety inspections for landside and airside.
  • Report unsafe and emergency conditions to supervisors, other staff and emergency personnel.
  • Performs pressure washing on the airfield, building, sidewalks, etc.
  • Assist in the performance of preventative maintenance, repairs on equipment, and component parts of all associated systems.
  • Operates power equipment, wheel tractors, mobile sweepers, air hammers, flatbed truck, forklifts, and other types of equipment while performing routine equipment maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be able to learn FAA, TSA, and FDOT regulations
  • Knowledge of standard tools, materials, and procedures used in grounds maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, equipment common to construction, maintenance, landscaping and repair.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to operate communication devices (two way radio) and the ability to clearly communicate with the Air Traffic Controllers and other JAA employees.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical labor and duties and associated with grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to learn and adapt computer technology.
  • Ability to care for and operate various types of power and manual equipment used for grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to understand and analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Must possess a positive attitude, be focused on customer service, and be able to work well with others in a team environment.

 

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent; and
  • Two (2) year of work experience operating lawn equipment.

 

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Florida Class E Driver’s License may be required and must be maintained.
  • Florida Class B Driver’s License must be acquired within 180 working days.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, standing for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
