The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) welcomes applicants for the role of Facilities Mechanic II through midnight Sunday, February 9, 2025.

 

Job Summary:

This is skilled craft work responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial electrical components and systems within the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. This position will also perform various activities and repairs as required to maintain the airport facilities. The work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods, and procedures used in repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment which involves the use of specialized equipment and skills and is learned on the job or through specialized training. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by somewhat diversified procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications. The work is performed primarily indoors where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Operates a computer and hand tools associated with the repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment. Operates motor vehicles. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set priorities subject to superior’s approval. This position will work in one of 3, 8 hour shifts as required and weekend/holiday work requirements to maintain 24/7 operations.

 

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in commercial buildings, ensuring that the work adheres to relevant codes.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repairs, while ensuring compliance with safety codes
  • Plan the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Direct and train other workers in the installation, maintenance, or repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of breakdowns and correct issues.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Perform energy audits and recommend energy-saving solutions for commercial facilities.
  • Ensures hourly equipment readings are entered in the log and signs all logs.
  • Documents and input data and other information required to maintain all P.M. sheets, service reports, work orders, and logbooks.
  • Provides housekeeping tasks in all work areas used during shifts.
  • Performs pre-scheduled preventive maintenance of all operating equipment, inspections, adjustments, lubrication, alignments, and other necessary repairs.
  • Performs assignments set forth in the shift assignment book.
  • Communicates operational information and directions to the relieving shift employees and other Operations staff personnel.
  • Responds to and investigates fire alarms throughout the JAA airport buildings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by foreman and/or lead.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of commercial electrical codes water systems, sanitary systems, and structures maintenance
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of computerized work order systems
  • Knowledge of electric and electronic systems
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to use logic and take a systematic approach to solving mechanical problems.
  • Ability to train and assist with the work of team members.

 

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Three (3) years’ experience in commercial electric work.  

 

Licenses & Certifications

  • Electrical Journeyman Certification 
  • Florida Class E Driver's License is required and must be maintained.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
