The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) welcomes applications for the position of Facilities Technician I at Cecil Airport through midnight on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing general maintenance tasks associated with maintaining airfield and grounds for day-to-day operations of all JAA airports. The Facilities Technician I is responsible for the maintenance of runways, taxiways, airport roads, and some preventative maintenance and upkeep of equipment utilized. This position is also responsible for tasks assigned within office buildings and hangars. The work is semi-routine and covered by procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The position requires use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications. The work is performed primarily indoors and outdoors where there are    some risks and hazards, but they are generally known, predictable, and controllable. Operates motor vehicles. The work is performed under general supervision where assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set priorities subject to superior's approval. This position requires employee’s schedules to rotate based on shift work (when required) and weekend/holiday work to maintain airport operations.

Essential Functions

  • Operates heavy equipment to mow grass in and around all airports.
  • Operates a variety of light/medium duty motorized maintenance and construction equipment, including tracked vehicles, trucks, tractors, sweepers, and mowers.
  • Uses mobile sweepers to sweep runways, taxiways, streets, and parking areas.
  • Uses small mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled building and hangar maintenance as needed.
  • Performs landscaping, land clearing, asphalt work, and minor construction including concrete, road, and building repairs.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of JAA owned equipment.
  • Clears and levels various areas in and around airport using front-end loader, flatbed truck, dump trucks, bulldozer, and other equipment.
  • Communicates via radio system to the air traffic control tower on/around the airfield.
  • May perform troubleshooting and repairs of facility plumbing, irrigation, hangar doors, fencing, gates, structure integrity, and other systems/equipment as needed.
  • Performs construction using drywall, concrete blocks, etc. to include painting.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of tracked cutting/clearing vehicles; tractor mowing equipment; hand tools; power tools; test instruments; airfield paints and striping equipment.
  • Working knowledge and utilization of tools and equipment.
  • Able to operate communication devices (i.e., two-way radio) and to clearly communicate with the Air Traffic Controllers and other JAA employees.
  • Working knowledge and utilization of Microsoft Office Products and time and attendance keeping system.
  • Able to inspect facilities and equipment to determine needs and improvements.
  • Demonstrated maintenance skills to maintain all aspects of gates and hangar doors.
  • Make sound decisions by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Ability to operate cellular devices and web-based applications.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent, and
  • Minimum of 3 years in general exterior maintenance, and
  • Mechanical Aptitude and experience with trailer towing and small equipment transport

 

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Knowledge of FDOT and FAA regulations and policies.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations and policies for maintenance activities in the airfield operations area.
  • 2 years of construction experience.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Florida Class E Driver’s License may be required and must be maintained.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid CDL-B Commercial driver’s license within 120 days of hire.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Florida limited lawn & ornamental license within 180 days of hire.

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
