Job Summary

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) is accepting Internal and External applications for the role of Facilities HBS Mechanic until midnight Thursday, October 3, 2024.

 

This is skilled craft work in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment associated with the automated baggage handling conveyor systems. The work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods, and procedures used in repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment which involves the use of specialized equipment and skills and is learned on the job or through specialized training. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by somewhat diversified procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications. The work is performed primarily indoors where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Operates a computer and hand tools associated with the repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment. Operates motor vehicles. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker is permitted some latitude to set priorities subject to superior's approval.

 

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for troubleshooting any mechanical and electrical parts of the HBS system
  • Performs preventative maintenance from PM Schedules
  • Assists in coordinating the workload generated from PM schedule
  • Responsible for documenting problems and other pertinent information and advises the HBS Foreman.
  • Responsible for replacing and installation of motors, drives, chains, drive belts, multiple types of conveyor belt sections, rollers, bearings, gearboxes, Siemens high speed diverter and all of its components, pushers, carousels (multiple types), photo eyes limit switches, contactors, scanners and other variety of parts that make up the HBS system.
  • Works directly with HBS control operators and airport operations to resolve system issues.
  • Uses blueprints and line diagrams to diagnose and fix electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Manually operates systems using PLCs during critical system failures.
  • Coordinates with Electrical and Building Maintenance, prior to and during power outages, to prevent damage to critical electronic components.
  • Maintains a complete and effective inventory of all critical replacement parts.
  • Maintains a program of electrical and mechanical safety practices in the performance of routine and scheduled duties.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Oracle and Oracle eAM work order system
  • Ability to research inventory
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical safety practices
  • Capability to inspect HBS system to determine needs and improvements
  • Make sound decisions by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

 

Required Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent and
  • Three (3) years of technical work experience and
  • Experience using troubleshooting industrial automation devices PLC

Promotional Requirements

  • Employed with JAA for three (3) years, AND
  • Obtains a Journeymen License, AND
  • Has no prior or active disciplinary action within 365 days, AND
  • Endorsement by Lead or Foreman, AND
  • Approval from Chief or Department Director and Human Resources

 

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge
  • Florida Class E Driver’s License is required and must be maintained
  • Millwright or mechanic certification preferred

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a work station for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
