General Qualifications:
The Accountant is a Non-Ministerial position. Non-ministerial staff serve in operational and service support roles and are not required to affirm Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision and beliefs. It is desired that staff who fill these roles are followers of Jesus Christ and embrace MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. Position Objective:
The Accountant is responsible for input, reconciliation, and review of various accounting activities as they pertain to the organization’s Payroll, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable. The objective is to ensure the accurate payment of wages, collection of bills, financial accounting, and reporting in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Prepare reconciliations of bank and GL accounts, including month and year end journal entries.
- Assist in annual budgeting and audit preparation.
- Ensure successful completion of weekly Accounts Payable processing, including regular review of data entry and processing weekly and monthly ACH payments.
- Interact with multiple software applications to transfer data into the accounting system.
- Process incoming credit cards, cash and checks for deposit.
- Reconcile cash deposits to vaults and bank.
- Periodic review of regular and supplemental payroll processing. Backup payroll specialist.
- Additional contact with Payroll provider (ie Paycom.)
- Maintain and review annual payroll reports.
- Maintain employee rent receivable accounts.
- Interact with staff to communicate accounting procedures and processes and offer assistance as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Education/Certifications/Licenses:
- College degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Work Experience:
- Five+ years training and experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic accounting skills and knowledge required.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work with current Excel spreadsheets and/or create new spreadsheets as needed.
- Ability to learn multiple software programs with relative ease.
Physical Demands:
- The physical environment requires the employee sit at a desk and computer for long periods. The primary job responsibilities involve long hours of data entry. In addition, there may be occasional standing, squatting, stooping, and twisting. Possible occasional ability to lift/carry up to 20 lb. boxes for short distances.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in regards to all areas encountered in the job.
- May be requested to work overtime for occasional deadlines during high volume seasons such as audit.
- Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
- Must have a clean driving record of at least three years, and agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
- Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
- Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
