Position Objective:

The KC Adventure Camp Lead is primarily responsible for managing the adventure camp programs of Kidder Creek Camp this includes supervising counselors, teaching and mentoring, and coordinating logistics to ensure a fun, safe and God glorifying camp in a manner consistent with MHA’s Mission, Vision and Values.

 

General Qualifications:

The Kidder Creek (“KC”) Adventure Camp Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) and KC’s specific mission, vision and beliefs.  They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. 

 

Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Implement the Adventure Camp programing and scheduling as presented by KC Leadership for elementary, Jr High and High School campers. 
  • Lead counselors and campers by clearly communicating responsibilities and needs to all staff.
  • Lead staff meetings, program activities, and campfire times.
  • Ensure the safety and organization of all staff and campers in Adventure Camp.
  • Conduct middle and end of summer evaluations for the program and all supervised staff.
  • Prepare, lead, and equip counselors in their daily activities and programs.
  • Attend all staff meetings and events.
  • Work in partnership with Camp Hope Leaderships during Camp Hope weeks.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas including cabins, living areas, workspaces and supplies clean and orderly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • At least 2 years’ college experience is preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified prior to arriving at camp.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older with a clean driving record due to MH driver policy.
  • Successful completion of KC’s River Guide School and Swift Water Rescue (or equivalent course from another provider) prior to summer preferred.

 

Work Experience:

  • Previous KC experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with elementary, junior high school students.
  • Prior camp counseling experience preferred.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal, committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
  • Takes initiative with attention to detail and follow-through, creative, flexible and able to adjust to challenges of the program.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Requires lifting and transporting 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs.
  • Requires employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, cables, and trees using hands and feet. 
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to be in the sun for extended periods.

 

Additional Requirements/Skills:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Drive campers in camp vehicles. Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
