Position Objective:

The PL Lifeguard Lead oversees and leads all water-based activities at PL (including but not limited to pools, pool/water games, and potential surfing/kayaking excursions) and the staff who lead them, ensures that campers have a pool or water based experience that aligns with the MHA Youth Ministry’s vision and objectives, and ensures the safety and well-being of all campers and staff involved in all water based activities, in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Ponderosa Lodge (“PL”) Lifeguard Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Train and monitor staff for adherence to MHA’s Aquatics risk management practices and procedures.
  • Provide care and maintenance of all PL pool equipment and sanitation levels including, but not limited to, perform daily, weekly and periodic checks and timely log reports of damage or maintenance issues to the PL Activities Lead and Pool Technician.
  • Lead, supervise and train part-time lifeguard and substitute lifeguards.
  • Communicate weekly schedule of aquatics events with the MHA Aquatics Lead.
  • Meet regularly with the PL activities team.
  • Other duties as assigned by the PL Activities Coordinator.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

- Highschool grad and some college experience
- Must have a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED and FA

Work Experience:

 

- Prior Lifeguard experience is required
- Experience teaching youth and young adults new skills and managing risks in an aquatic setting
- At least 1 year experience as a Mount Hermon Summer Staff preferred
- Experience with watercraft, ocean kayaking, or ocean guarding is extremely beneficial

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
  • Possess proven leadership experience and skills along with a strong background in ministry and leadership of high school/junior high campers and staff.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Additional Requirements/Skills:

  • Must be at least 18 year of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Work hours vary with program.

  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Commitment to being part of the leadership team within the camp community, and investing in staff during camp sessions and weekends.
  • Commitment to spending time serving campers and helping to create a great experience for them.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
