Position Objective:

The RWC Counselor Coordinator provides emotional, personal, and spiritual well-being of Summer Staff, oversee staff community living as well as counseling in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

General Qualifications:

The Redwood Camp (RWC”) Counselor Coordinator is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Model a genuine Christian lifestyle, encouraging and nurturing Summer Staff to serve in a selfless manner.
  • Organize, facilitate, and communicate social and recreational events for Summer Staff, building community through healthy interactions.
  • Enforce community standards to ensure a harmonious living environment.
  • Assist counselors as opportunities arise, working alongside them to facilitate high performance in different areas (cabin management, curriculum facilitation, problem-solving, crisis mitigation, CPS reports, homesick campers, etc).
  • Perform and oversee office duties related to counselor reports and ensure timely processing.
  • Provide feedback and evaluation to counseling staff by completing mid-summer evaluations and on-going quality control of job performance.
  • Invest in, encourage, provide feedback, and lead counseling staff in helping maintain healthy community among staff and care for the needs of counselors-interpersonal, work, performance, and vision casting.
  • Lead Counselor meetings each weekday in conjunction with the other RWC Counselor Coordinator.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • RWC male counselors

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; college graduate preferred.
  • Graduate work in a ministry or human services related field preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.
  • Must possess a valid current driver’s license and have a clean driving record.

 

Work Experience:

  • Prior or current experience working with college age students in ministry settings.
  • Must have experience in leadership roles (while working with college age students and young adults).
  • Prior camp counseling experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess leadership skills and emotional and spiritual maturity.
  • Must possess a developed sense of empathy.
  • Must be willing to take initiative.
  • Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must be flexible with an ability to adjust and problem solve in challenging situations.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, and hiking.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
