Position Objective:

The Day Camp Assistant Lead works to assist the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator and the Day Camp Team Lead to oversee and lead Day Camp Counselors in providing activities, curriculum, and logistics for primary youth to nurture spiritual growth. They also act as a Day Camp Counselor and are responsible for modeling a genuine Christian lifestyle to primary youth, ensuring campers’ safety and well-being, and befriending campers to nurture spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values.

 

General Qualifications:

The Day Camp Assistant Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and beliefs.  They are responsible for defining, cultivating, and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.  

 

Key Job Accountabilities:         

  • Assist in providing staff leadership through training, team building, and constant communication under the direction of the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator and the Team Lead.
  • Run daily grade group meetings with team of counselors, coordinate and distribute daily program schedules, delegate tasks for activities, and facilitate cleaning group responsibilities.
  • Help kids encounter God and others by partnering with the Day Camp team in all aspects of discipleship; implementing Day Camp curriculum within small and large groups.
  • Responsible for the welfare of campers through guidance and supervision of Day Campers  
  • Coordinate with Team Lead and other Assistant Leads to implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum.
  • Provide counseling for a group of children.
  • Lead and assist in crafts, music, drama, group games, etc.
  • Share in the responsibility of keeping camp areas, including workspaces and supplies, clean and orderly.
  • Attend a weekly meeting with the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator and the Leadership Team.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist Team Lead and Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator in the overall care for Day Camp Staff

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; some college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

 

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience with Day Camp is preferred.
  • Prior experience in leadership roles in camp settings preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.
  • Ability to articulate the Gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must be creative, detail oriented, and have the ability to follow through with projects.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, seeing, hearing, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children. 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, values, and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Possible opportunities to work with campers with special needs through our One on One program in assisting them physically, cognitively, and emotionally as they engage the camp experience in a way best suited to their individual needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
