Description

Position Objective:

Assist the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator in overseeing and leading the Day Camp program and its staff by providing guidance and organization of program activities and curriculum to the Day Camp team and create an environment that fosters safety and spiritual growth in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values.

 

General Qualifications:

The Day Camp Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code, and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating, and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator in organizing, documenting, and facilitating the Day Camp program and staff members’ general well-being.
  • Provide leadership for staff success and support through discipleship training, team-building, and clear communication.
  • Coordinate with Day Camp staff to implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum.
  • Maintain all records as directed by the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator and other Family Ministry Staff Leads.
  • Maintain open communication with parents to discuss issues or concerns regarding their child/children’s well-being with special attention given to health, safety, and discipline.
  • Maintain sensitivity to the Day Camp staff members’ personal needs and organize events for team building, communication, and fun.
  • Facilitate, in partnership with the Family Ministry Children' Coordinator, devotions and sharing that allows Day Camp staff the opportunity to support and encourage one another on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Assist the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator in grade-specific group assignments, ordering supplies, keeping the staff informed, etc.
  • Ensure Assistant Leads have ideas, materials, and weekly/daily plan.
  • Keep Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator informed about any needs, problems, joys, or unusual situations.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator and Leadership Team.
  • Organize, clean, and maintain work areas and supplies to ensure they are clean, orderly, and fully stocked; motivate staff to make improvements wherever possible.
  • In conjunction with Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator, ensure the physical and spiritual welfare of campers through discipline and guidance of children.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Day Camp Counselors.
  • Day Camp Assistant Leads.
  • Day Camp Worship Specialist.
  • Conduct Midsummer Evaluations with team members.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; some college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

 

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience with Day Camp is preferred.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles in camp settings.

  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Possess intuition, and the ability to take initiative.
  • Possess leadership and observational qualities.
  • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.
  • Ability to articulate the Gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must be creative, detail oriented, and have the ability to follow through with projects.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever.

 

Physical Demands:  

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children. 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, values, and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Possible opportunities to work with campers with special needs through our One on One program in assisting them physically, cognitively, and emotionally as they engage the camp experience in a way best suited to their individual needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
