Position Objective:

Child Care Assistant Lead assists the Team Lead and the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator in overseeing and leading the childcare staff and program by providing guidance and organization of program activities and curriculum and create an environment that fosters safety and spiritual growth in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values. 

 

General Qualifications:

The Child Care Assistant Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. 

 

Key Job Accountabilities:  

  • Assist Team Lead & Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator in organizing, documenting, and facilitating Child Care program and staff members’ general well-being.
  • Assist in providing leadership for staff through training, team building, meetings, and clear, appropriate, and timely communication.
  • Directly oversee and be responsible for a specific classroom during the summer (infants, toddlers, pre-k, and kindergarten), providing specialization, continuity, and care for the quality of program in that age-group.
  • Coordinate with staff for the week to implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum.
  • Provide clear and open communication with parents regarding their child /children’s well-being with special attention given to health, safety, correction and care.
  • Coordinate and distribute schedules and events to Child Care counselors in their respective classrooms.
  • Organize and maintain work areas and supplies to ensure they are clean, orderly and fully stocked.
  • Help kids encounter God and others by partnering with the Child Care team in all aspects of discipleship; implementing curriculum.
  • Responsible for the welfare of campers through guidance and supervision of Day Campers 
  • Lead and assist in small and large group teaching of curriculum as well as in crafts, music, drama, group games, etc.
  • Attend a weekly meeting with the Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator and Leadership Team.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly oversee a specific classroom for the summer providing leadership, feedback, and direction for the staff that week.
  • Assist Team Lead and Family Ministries Children’s Coordinator in the overall care for Child Care staff.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; some college experience preferred.
  • Preferred college credits in pre-school education.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

 

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience with working with children in ministry settings.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles in child care settings.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and possess problem-solving skills.
  • Love for children of all ages is essential; capable of being a strong Christian role model to children.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must possess leadership and observational skills.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.

 

Physical Demands: 

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children. 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, values, and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Possible opportunities to work with campers with special needs through our One on One program in assisting them physically, cognitively, and emotionally as they engage the camp experience in a way best suited to their individual needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
