Position Objective:

The Child Care Team Lead assists the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator in overseeing and leading the Child Care program and staff by providing guidance and organization of program activities and curriculum and create an environment that fosters safety and spiritual growth in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values. 

 

General Qualifications: 

The Child Care Team Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.  

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator in organizing, documenting, and facilitating the Child Care program and staff members’ general well-being.
  • Provide leadership for staff success and support through discipleship training, team-building, and clear communication.
  • Coordinate with Child Care staff to implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum.
  • In conjunction with the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator, supervise and evaluate the Child Care staff: counselors, assistant leads, and assistants.
  • Maintain all records as directed by the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator.
  • Ensure open communication with parents to discuss issues or concerns regarding their child/children’s well-being with special attention given to health, safety, and discipline.
  • Maintain sensitivity to Child Care staff members’ personal needs as needed and organize events for team building, communication, and fun.
  • Facilitate (in partnership with the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator) devotions and sharing that allows Child Care staff the opportunity to support and encourage one another on a daily or bi-weekly basis.
  • Assist the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator in classroom assignments, ordering supplies, keeping the staff informed, etc.
  • Work with Assistant Leads to ensure each has ideas, materials, and weekly/daily plan.
  • Inform the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator about any needs, problems, joys, or unusual situations.
  • Order supplies from Food Service, paper from mailroom, and other miscellaneous supplies with approval from the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator and organize and maintain work areas and supplies to ensure they are clean, orderly and fully stocked.
  • Organize the cleaning and upkeep procedures for each classroom and motivate Child Care staff to make improvements wherever possible
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator and Leadership Team.
  • Assist in and support other Children’s Ministry program activities, duties, or other areas as requested by the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator.
  • In conjunction with the Family Ministries Children's Coordinator, provide for the physical and spiritual welfare of campers through discipline and guidance of children.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; some college experience preferred.
  • College credits in Preschool education preferred. 
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

 

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience with working with children in ministry settings.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles in child care setting.

  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and possess problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must possess intuition and the ability to take initiative.
  • Must possess leadership and observational skills.
  • Must be creative, detail-oriented, with the ability to follow through with projects.
  • A heart to serve whenever.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, values, and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Possible opportunities to work with campers with special needs through our One-on-One program in assisting them physically, cognitively, and emotionally as they engage the camp experience in a way best suited to their individual needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
